3rd Brisbane CNC User Group Meeting - 11th July 2009

Hi All,

Details for the next bi-monthly Brisbane CNC User Group meeting is as follows;

Date: Saturday 11 July 2009
Time: 10am till around 3pm
Where: Zillmere QLD (please email me at karmann68 at gmail dot com for my address and phone # as I won't be posting it on an open forum)
What to Bring: A machine, parts, work pieces or something else of interest. Alcohol

For those who cannot get there by car, I am about a 10min walk from Zillmere train station and close to buses being just near Church & Zillmere Roads.

I have a WidgitMaster Wide CNC Machine (550mm x 210mm cutting area) running Mach3 and VCarve Pro that I will have setup and would encourage others to bring their (small) machine or other items of interest to discuss with others.

I have an upstairs covered deck around 7m x 4m and also some space below for larger or heavier equipment. I only have 1 (or maybe 2) folding 6ft tables so if you are able to bring another along please let me know.

I'd like to make it fairly informal, however it would be good to have at least 30-60min set aside to have someone discuss a topic of interest. I'll get more details on the previous day up at Boris's and try and not go over the same topic. If you have any suggestions or would like to volunteer, let me know. I have a 50" Plasma Monitor that we can all huddle around.

Unfortunately for me Boris raised the bar fairly high, so I won't even try and top him Sorry I couldn't be there.

I will supply the basics for a BBQ (sausages, bread, sauce, soft drinks, plates, cutlery) so BYO the rest (alcohol, steaks, etc). If numbers exceed my expectations, then I might need to ask for a small donation.

Hi Claudio,

I will be attending. All I will need is power for my laptop.

I hope to bring my partly assembled lathe for show and tell.

Progress has been good so far.

I am currently designing a stand and coolant tray to mount the lathe.

Numbers are climbing quickly which is good to see, so thanks for the replies guys.

Nicely built lathe there Chris, would be great to see it on the day, as I for one would be interested in a CNC lathe in the future.

Power is not a problem and I have plenty of extension cords and power boards with a dedicated 20A circuit nearby.

For those who might want to fly into Brisbane, I'm about 15 minutes from the airport and might be able to pick you up or have someone else do it. Alternatively you can catch a train to Eagle Junction and swap to the Caboolture train and get off at Zillmere. Or a cable ride is about $30 to $35.

Thanks for the invite. ...I will be there!

I can offer my plans for the CNC router that I built in CAD form.

I can also offer to show how I have been getting my CAD stuff into Gcode with Rhino and RhinoCAM, if anyone is interrested. (I am fairly new to doing this but am doing ok I think, so some others that are more experienced may be able to show me a better way, (which could turn into a good work-shop) or that can be put off for another day if you already have enough stuff to talk about. I don't mind.

You are more than welcome Steve. Read as much as you can on CNCzone and other sites before hand and you'll get more value out of the day. Lots of great info and people around.

This is open to anyone interested, and I'm more than happy to have vendors of related products come along (if the majority of the group agree) and show their products in a casual way without pushing products down peoples throats
