Redsail M500, directly imported, not Australian-standard certified - anyone want it? | | Hi folks,
Some months ago I foolishly decided to directly import a Redsail M500 from China, because it was cheap and I needed a laser for my engraving and trophies business. Only a few days after, I went to a demonstration by Trotec and decided that even though theirs are much more expensive, the level of service and support was worth it. So I'm about to have that one delivered within a few weeks.
Anyway the Redsail machine arrived, and I put it up on eBay. The Redsail dealers in Australia messaged me to say that the machine doesn't meet Australian safety standards, so if I sold it I could be liable for any injuries caused by it. Not exactly good news, but I bear them no grudges for telling me an unpleasant truth. So I took it down.
I've talked to them on and off since, tossing up whether to sell it to them to refit and resell, or have it converted by them to meet the Australian standards (apparently they take out most of the electronics to replace them, supply a better cooling tank, set up the software properly, supply English instructions and training, etc). I want to stress that I make no criticism of them in this, they've actually been quite helpful to me, considering. I wish them well.
Anyway they've made me an offer for it, which I'm inclined to accept if I can't do better here, but it involves me taking a fairly substantial loss on it. The amount they've offered is reasonable given that they import the things in bulk, but if anyone else is willing to buy it ("as is", but I assure you it will work and will refund your money if it doesn't), in the full knowledge that it will need a refit by a qualified electrical engineer to meet WH&S standards, and indemnifying me against any harm done to anyone or anything by the machine, I'd consider a reasonable alternative offer. It's still under the Chinese warranty, for what that's worth. If you have the Australian Redsail dealer do the refit (they've quoted me about $4,000) then I would expect they would guarantee their work; in any case they should be able to help you get spare parts if needed.
I'm looking for around $5,000 or near offer for it. (Purchase and import cost me about $6,000.) Ideally someone in or near Brisbane, since it'll be far easier for me to transport it (and help you set it up if you like), but other places in Australia would be OK. Not anywhere else, which is why I'm posting this here in the Aust/NZ forum rather than the Classifieds.
Any interest? They seem like quite a good machine, which is why I wanted one in the first place, google for the details. It comes with two spare tubes, some spare mirrors, and a rotary fixture.
I really do need to get rid of it soon, as I need the space in my shop.
