Hello to the CNC zone community!
I have just registered.
A very special hello to all the South Australians in the community.
I have just about finished (final touches) my CNC Engraver/Router/XYZ machine.
It is working very well and I'm very happy with the accuracy.
Looking forward to some good technical conversation!

All the best,

Graeme

As Requested - Photos of said creation so far

Thanks for the welcome and interest.
I started building just before Christmas.
Everyone thinks I'm crazy! They ask why? I just say 'because I can'

Hope you like the pics.

Thanks for the compliment mkc2.
I do like a clean work shop.
What sort of machine do you run?
I'm just doing a bit of engraving at the moment, but I would like to do some 3D type machining/milling.
Have you got any recommendations for 3D software?
I use 3D AutoCad to create models and would then like to convert the file to G-code.
I have looked at a few different ones but am not sure what is best.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thumbs up

Very nice machine yourself mkc2.
That is awesome!
Extremely neat and tidy. I see we have the same taste in spindle(my decision was price motivated).
I'm just making a trolley for my machine. I need my workshop bench back!!
I think you and I would get along well. I can see how fastidious you are with what you do.

Must do some work.
All the best

Hey Graeme, another Sth Aussie, thumbs up. If you are interested there is a user group that meets up once a month here in Adelaide, the A-CNC-G. We area group of like minded blokes who have some broad ranging skills. It was because of this group that I got my machine under control. If you are interested http://www.cnczone.com/forums/attach...4&d=1237720312 and PM or Email Peter R for some info. I think the next meeting is the 26th of May.

Thanks for the info Allyd1964.
I have already been talking to Peter about CNC stuff.
I meant to go to the last meeting but I had one of those days and it just didn't happen.
By hook or by crook I will be at the next meeting!
Looking forward to meeting you and other like minded people.

All the best

G'day Loyedp,
Thanks for the feedback.
Machine rigidity isn't the best for the Y-axis but I'm not running big loads and I don't intend to.
I don't know if you can see in my photos but the x-axis runs on ball bearings on the inside of the gantry. The hardened/ground shafts & bushings keep the axis in line but the steel rails and ball bearings keep it level.
I was getting around 0.5mm of sag when the gantry was in the middle of the machine. The bearings fixed that problem. Cheap too!
I can consistently place the tool within 0.1mm. I would say 0.05mm but I don't want to sound over confident.
Hope I've answered your question Loyedp

Cheers
