Brisbane: Aluminium/Steel 4x4

I'd like to thank all OZ members that have detailed local suppliers of cnc gear.
I imported alot, and went with an extrusion supplier not yet mentioned here, but I wouldn't have known where to start without your efforts.

First Aluminium cuts will be new motor and spindle mounts.
I'll grab some video soon, but for now all I have is this;

Isel 10mm pitch adjustable pre-load ballscrews.
Isel adjustable pre-load linear carriages.
Robotunits aluminium extrusions.
4x203v's C11g
Homeshopcnc RS 600oz Steppers (40v, 7amp)
Kress FME 1050

18 months... gone!

Thanks alot

Justin.

Excellent work there Justin. Looks like it will be a very sturdy machine. You should be very happy with the Kress. I have the FME 800 and it's great.

Where abouts in Brisbane are you.

Look forward to more photos and video.

A couple of us are going to try and organise a Brisbane CNC BBQ get together around mid year.

Cheers,

Claudio

Quick video tour.

A video of my work in progress... running at 5000mm/m feedrate, 7500mm/m rapid.
Top speed to date: 10000/13500.
No problems cutting, but estops are a bit harsh at that speed!

There is chatter in 1 section, I'm not suprised given the method I used to secure it.. It's Sunday.

Thanks for the kind words Claudio, I was hoping to drag a few brisbanites in here (I'm Southside).
The Kress is great so far, with 2 collets and a spare nut it compares to the local Die Grinders on price.
I won't mention how long it took to arrive though

That's a beautiful machine Justin and speeds are very impressive.

What are you planning on cutting with it?

Cheers,

Claudio

Pretty decent machine you have built there Justin. You will get a lot of work out of that.

Just one thing, pay more attention to optimising the acceleration rather than the rapid.

Acceleration will play a greater roll in how it performs especially when you start doing 3D cutting.

Also see if you can get the little plastic plugs for the linear rails. It will give the wipers a lot better chance of keeping the dust out of the bearings.

Keep posting pics.

Greg

Greg,

Funny you mention that! I'm running it slow because I was tuning the acceleration.
It was doing 10,000mm/m in 2 tenths of a second. From memory, that video is 7500 in half a second.

I did a very small vcarve as a test, at full speed it felt like the table was floating, Possibly an issue with the rubber feet
I'll cut those little plugs when I do some of the other 'missing' pieces, the Alu channel sitting on the cutting bed is for mounting gaurds etc. soon...

Claudio,

I'll use it for 2.5/3D carving my artwork.
Outside that, There is enough clearance under the gantry to handle full sheets of ply/mdf if the need arises.
I'd like to reserve part of the table for Aluminium work, with a rotary index/axis.

I may need to move house soon, so for now, I'm just glad it works

Regards,

Justin.
