Hi all, been checking out the forum for a while now, find it very informative. I have recently convinced my boss to get me a CNC router, having very little experience with other than getting other companies to machine different jobs for me. Anyway yesterday a large box arrived from china with my router. I am wondering is there someone in Melbourne, i am located in Kensington to teach me basics of Cnc machining, I am currently trying to teach myself several different programs, just need some advice from an expert on the best way to proceed. If you know anyone i could contact, we are happy to pay for the service. thanks |

Is the machine that you bought an Excitech from sh-cnc? Looks like you are in the same situation that we were just a few months ago. It all seems very daunting at first. If you persevere and ask lots of questions - you will quickly realise that there are lots of very informed blokes on the forum who will help you to get acquainted with it all. You mention that you have the DSP and Syntec system. Our Excitech is a manual tool changer machine and has the DSP system. As i understand it - the Syntec system is used on Auto Tool Changer machines. Which do you have? With software - most of us use V Carve Pro as it is easy to learn and use. Ucancam and Type 3 were supplied with our machine but we have not used it yet. You may find it easier to pay the $600 to get V Carve Pro. How about posting some photos and specs of your machine. I would be willing to help you, but i live in Adelaide so cannot be there to help. Have you checked out the Excitech cnc Router Purchase thread in the commercial wood router section of the forum? Hope it all becomes clear to you. Rocket. |

Hi Rocket, Yes, i did get the machine from excitech, it is the SHMS 1325, i havn't got all the specs with me at the moment as i am away on business, but it is not auto tool changing so it is only the DSP control system. Its around 3000mm x 1300mm bed. i will post some further pics when i get back and manage to get it out of the crate. Can you tell me the sort of work you do on your machine... I will be in Adelaide in a couple of months for work, would you mind if i came by and checked out your workshop. I checked out the China machine thread prior to purchasing, it was where i first read about Excitech. I thought that from when i ordered to when it arrived i would have had more time to learn the basics. thanks crumpler |

| G`day crumpler, Nice choice of machine. We are thrilled to bits with our Excitech. Your machine is very similar to ours. You will quickly learn that the software is the most important thing to become familiar with. The machine will do exactly as your software program tells it to. I strongly suggest that you purchase V Carve Pro software and put the other ones in your bottom drawer. Most machine users have the V Carve Pro and therefore you will have the knowledgable support of the members to guide you as well as the Vectric Forum. We manufacture Built in Robes with sliding doors and the Excitech is used to put routered patterns on the doors. We used to outsource this work. The cost savings are considerable now, as well as having total control over our work schedules. It is all good. You are very welcome to come and see us when you are in Adelaide. We are Image Blinds and Robes - 16/28 Research Rd Pooraka. ph 08 82626888 The machine is operated by Ramon a couple of days a week - so best to call in on the days that he is working. Just ring me (ask for Rod)and we can organise it. It may even be worth your while to hop on a plane and come over and see us before you begin to work with your machine. We can give you some good and practical lessons in what to do and what not to do so that you can get started. In the meantime, i suggest you get V Carve Pro and start learning. Rocket. |

| Crumpler I am, like Rocket, a fan of Vectric's Vcarve Pro but it depends on the type of work you wish to perform as to whether it is suitable for you. I am presently travelling to Melbourne eastern suburbs from Geelong each day for work. I could call in one afternoon on the way home and have a chat about what you are doing if you like. PM me for contact details if that sounds a good idea. Greg |

| Hi crumpler, How are you getting on with your machine? As i have written many times - We are very happy with our machine, but there is one weakness that is starting to show itself with a few owners. If you address the potential problem now - you can avoid downtime in the future. The problem is the lack of a secure connection where the DSP cable plugs into the control box. It does not plug in properly. The cable drags on the floor and it will not be long before you or somebody else steps on it and the pins will become bent and then cause damage to the DSP system. Our remedy was to put a supporting block of wood under the connection, and then we secured the cable to the leg of the machine. Then we noticed that the cable was still dragging on the floor - so i fitted a coat hook to the right hand side of the machine. This keeps the cable off the floor. There are photos of the setup in the Excitech cnc Router Purchase thread. The only problem that we have had since was when i ran into the supporting block of wood with a pallet truck and knocked the cable out of position. To prevent this i am going to make a steel frame to fit around the cable area. Rocket. |
