    Red face An obvious solution?

    Hi guys.
I have a small problem, which I have spent at least one shift trying to overcome.

In my experience, on all the machines I've used in the past, after setting tool lengths and fixture offsets, while running the program I can see on the display where the tool tip is in relation to the part. ie, a programmed position of Z3. with the tool at this position, the display says Z3.!

One of the m/c's I'm currently using (a Richmond VMC w/Fanuc Oi-MB) doesn't do this. The Z axis position is meaningless in that it has the tool length added to the programmed position. eg, Z3. shows something like Z164.592
I thought I could simply change the proceedure of setting the tool length offsets and G54-G59.

No matter which way I try it I can't get it!?

At the moment I find this m/c slightly dangerous and very annoying to set up and run.(It also has a rapid override of 0% which is actually 1 or 2%, so you cant actually stop the thing!)

Is there someone out there using this controller who can shed some light?

Sorry, i can't shed any light on your problem but i can suggest you repost in another forum (or request for it to be moved). By posting here you limit yourself to Australians mostly, and while were not dumb, we are only a small subset of the total users on the forum. Try on one of the general or more specific forums that closely matches the machine/use.

    Cheers
    Matt

Good advice Matt. Unfortunately, I posted at lunch time while still at work, in the Fanuc forum, and was largely ignored, with no replies.
    thanks,
    Dave
