Hi, I have a couple of dead encoders and I think I could get them going by adapting a new module http://www.usdigital.com/products/em1-heds/ There doesn't appear to be an Australian retailers list on the US digital site. Anyone know where I can locally source these parts, preferably Melbourne/Geelong? Cheers Splint |

| The guys I know just go direct to US Digital, I am actually in the process of getting 3 myself, I can let you know how it goes if you like, but I haven't heard of any problems with their delivery. In fact by all reports they are very prompt to get encoders to Aus. Cheers. Russell. |

| OK so that didn't go so well, shipping on 3 yes three encoders to Australia came to $110.00 US!!! Apparently the package weighs 2 lbs, and since from the data sheet the encoders themselves weigh 0.8 ounces, I know I don't really do the old system but that still means a hell of a lot of packaging. So this adds up to $233.00 US for the 3 encoders I wanted (single ended 250 cpr) convert this to Aus dollars, makes it about $274.00 for three encoders ![]() Well for a bit over $90.00 bucks a pop each I will have a crack at making them myself. Wish I had better news. (I really do )Russell. |

| Thanks Russell, I've done a bit more searching around and found the RS are distributors of Avago products see this link http://www.rsaustralia.com/cgi-bin/b...cape&Nr=avl:au These are rated at 150 lines per inch which is less than what I currently have (1024 PPR) but it may still be an option as I may have to set up my system count incrementally as the servo runs up to 4000RPM. I don't know if RS do special orders for goods not listed in their catalogue but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I have also found this link for a local crew who deal with US Digital, might be worth getting a quote from them as they most likely have different shipping arrangements to retail customers and may be able to do it at a reasonable price. http://www.motiontech.com.au/electri...entcategory=83 The guys at CNCTeknix might also be worth a call http://cncteknix.com/portal/index.php I just had a look at the Farnell web site which looks interesting. http://au.farnell.com/jsp/search/bro...Ntt=avago&Ntx= Have a look at these and let me know what you think. | I have dug up a part number on a photo interrupter that does the quadrature side of things easily, from when I was previously thinking of a DIY version, it is a Sharp GP1A71R. Basically all you need is to position it on an appropriate encoder wheel (which I can print easily) and you are in business, I am looking into this, just have to locate the part, which is also proving difficult. I will have a look at the sites you listed later, bit late right now and I need my beauty sleep (lots of it lol) Russell. |

| I had the most luck on the Farnell site, I looked around and found this : http://au.farnell.com/jsp/Industrial...equestid=17700 Not quite the CPR I wanted but it might do for now, will keep looking. It also doesn't have much range in the shaft size, I really wanted 3/8 inch to fit my servo's... I will find out about shipping. Russell. |

| Hey Splint, I ordered 12 encoders from DigiKey, they are actually pretty cool, you can select your required resolution, from 48 to 2048 cpr, selectable with a dip switch, and they come with about 9 different sleeves to mount on different sized shafts, from about 2mm I think up to 8mm. Price was about $30.00 US and I think the postage was about $25.00 US, which is quite reasonable in my opinion. The good news is you can order single quantities. They are a capacitive encoder, not sure of the mechanics, but they were recommended by a friend of a friend who is using them in his machine. I will let you know when they arrive so you know how long it takes to get them, I used UPS. Link : http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea...me=102-1308-ND Cheers. Russell. |
