Removing a speed control/soft start from a router....

    Ok,

I am hoping this thread will get some replies so....

I have a Ryobi ERT2100VK router that has 2 problems - the spindle lock fell apart and the soft start board is doing funky things. So, I want to remove the the soft start board and bypass it. I have already sorted out the spindle lock issue.

I have the router in a zillion pieces at the moment tracing the wiring and so far have everything worked out except how the soft start/speed control works. I have 2 wires coming into the board, both coming from mains power but only 1 going out. The outbound wire goes down into the bowels of the magnets on one side.

A wire directly from the mains in is connected to the other side of the magnets.

    Wiring is as follows:

    Blue - Mains In
    Brown - Mains In

Both go through the handle on/off switch and come back to a terminal block.

Blue now goes direct to one side of the magnets.

Brown becomes Red and connects to the soft start module.
A blue wire jumps off the mains blue and also goes to the soft start module.

One wire exits the software start module (yellow) and attaches to the other side of the magnets.

Also across the the blue & brown wires is a .33uf yellow box, I assume this is a cap of some sort. It has the markings of Mex GPF 40/85/21 250V. From the 'net it is an anti jamming capacitor.

Now, after all that, I assume I take the output from the soft start (the yellow wire), disconnect it and join that to the incoming brown wire from the mains in.

So if anyone can say yay or nay to my connection suggestion I will go ahead and remove the soft start module and put this ting back together.

I want to use this router for my machine and run it via a Super-pid for speed control. It runs from 8000 to 23000 RPM and takes 1/2" & 1/4" collets.
    Thanks in advance

    Cheers

There is a long SuperPID thread somewhere on the forums here. Several people in that thread have removed soft start and speed controllers from routers so they can run them direct off the SuperPID. I am sure there are people in that thread who can help you.
