Hi mate, that board looks pretty 'basic'. It appears to have only one input available to you. (Probe).

If you were to wire up all the limit switches in parallel to that one pin, you could have the machine home itself.

I assume you are using Mach3? It allows you to set the home points and the limit points to the same input.

i have a duel boot system linux and win xp

in win xp i am useing mach3

in linux i will be learning and useing emc2 (or what ever it is called)

one thing i have noticed is when i manually jog the unit around its nice and fast but no matter what g-code i run (all downloaded off the net) it moves that slow i carnt even see it moving

now with the homeing and everythig am i right in thinking its some g-code i run to do it or is it built in to mach3 because i carnt find it (hopeless)

Problem 1: Speed very slow when the machine is moving.
Sounds like your 'feedrate' is too slow. In mach3 there is a section that should display your feedrate. Check that the speed in there is not super slow. You can adjust by entering 'F10' or 'F100' or 'F1000' into the G-code area.

    Problem 2: Homing buttons.
That depends on what screen-set you are using. If its the simple one (as in, you haven't customised or installed another) then it is on another screen. Click the buttons at the top that have numbers like 1,2,3,4,5 etc. Find home etc.

If you are going to stick with Mach3, I'd suggest having a thorough read of the Mach3 manual. Its a lot of reading, but it is pretty good.

ok been doing dry runs (spindel not powed up) and its all working good

but today for the first time i tried to run a dry run with the spindle running in the air but the second the VFD turned on (after boot up time on it) my z axis started to creep (changed speed when i changed the speed on the VFD) if i jogged the Z axis up it kept creeping up if i jogged it down it kept creeping down

what the hell is going on?

    Easy one

what the hell is going on?
Yeah, easy one. You may have the Z-axis pulse line 'upside down' and need to invert the output. This is done from Mach.
Also, you obviously have a lot of noise coming from the VFD. This needs fixing. The earth connections may need fixing.

    Cheers

ok i have fixed this problem Z axis is fine now

but i still have the trouble with the VFD making the Z axis move

i am guessing i need to replace the wire for the VFD to spindle but dont know with what

as for the earth as far as i can see everything is earthed and running off the same power point

this is a pain in the ass as i was in need of cutting out some stuff tomoro

    owell

    Hi
Had a lot of noise with my spindle and VFD. I put a shielded cable and earthed it.
Have a look at this thread

    thank you so much

i took my VFD and cables down to RS and they gave me a price of $257 +GST for a cable to replace the one on it

got home and read your post and found there is a branch of the place you mention only about 3Km from me here in Brisbane so i will head down there tomorrow

once again thank you so much

by the way HOLY SH!T your machine is HUGE and yes i think you have your spindle mounted really well LOL

PS:- when i was at RS a Electrical Engineer came in and over heard the discussion i was having with the sales guy

he took 1 look at the cabling and the fact that it didnt have a earth and wanted to know where i had got it so he could inform the correct people to stop them being sold here in AU

he kind of scared me i am 6"3 and 160Kg + but he made me look short and the bald head and tats realy put me on edge LOL

Hope there can help you out Lucky there near by. I found the delivery cost high.
The head on our machine is a composite that we made ourself. To old one was heavy and spun to slowly. Think about make a new mill totally out of composite.

well got the new cable and just finished putting it on (ever tried tom get a elephant to fit through a house hold door way?) it was about 3 times as thick as the cable that was on it so i have had to not put it in the cable track

90% of the problem is gone but it still creeps so it looks as though i will have to do the axis cables but need to find a supplier for 4 core (twisted)and shield and much lighter then what i just put on the spindle

ok new shielded cables on all axis's

creep still there on the Z axis when the VFD is running the spindle

    so i tryed something

i unclamped the spindle from the mill and powered both the mill and the spindle back up

    no creep

so i touched the spindle on the frame of the mill the creep started and then stoped when i took it off again

now all of the cables are shielded and earthed including the spindle

but the way its behaving it looks like a earth problem or a feedback through earth
