Here's a pic of part of the cut sheet, pretty much fitted on an A0 and 1/2... well thats what they charged for for anyway![]()
Hi all
I have been round the houses, so to speak, in deciding what machine to build as my first. It really has been a roller coaster ride going up and down, round and round. I started by looking at a full size Joes 2006 R2 but the more I tried to convert the drawings to metric the more I became disallusioned. I then thought about a buildyourcnc "book" build but didn't like the flimsyness of it so I moved onto a JGRO.
But something kept drawing me back to a Joes and upon looking at the cutting area of a jgro and that of Gully's Junior Joes I decided to go with Gully's version. Part of that decision was driven by the fact that Gully had already created a version of Joes plans in metric, albeit 80% of the size.
I spent the last couple of days creating a "cut sheet" that I could print full size. From this I will be cutting out masters by hand and then routing the MDF from these masters. I have made one change to the design to suit my budget but am not going to say anything about that change just yet. Anyway, I got the 1:1 sheet printed today so I can start work on the masters this weekend.
I was actually surprised how small the machine will be, when you see photos of these things they always look so much bigger. No matter, this will be a learning machine for me until I step up to somethings else. I just hope I can do my version of Gully's Joes 2006 R2 justice after seeing his outstanding build log.
More soon as I take piccies of the progress.
Cheers
Bruce

Heres a question or two for someone.....
I plan to use SLAMStepper controllers with the matching 4-axis board. Will the SLAMSteppers be OK with 425 OzIn motors? -> SLAm Stepper Motor Controller, Allegro SLA7062M, Unipolar
And the 4-axis board, when ordering do I just need one of everything listed on the purchasing page or do I need 4 of some parts? ->http://www.piclist.com/techref/io/st...axis5build.htm
Cheers
Bruce
Thank you to whoever cleaned up the thread, appreciated!
Got started today. Went off and bought a part sheet of 6mm MDF for my templates. I have 1 cut out so far, the main ribs for the X-axis. Used 5 power tools in the process - table saw, chop saw, router, drill press & jigsaw! Will continue with the X-axis pipe supports tomorrow.
Also got my white plastic chopping board from ebay, delivered on a Saturday no less. That will become various parts of the machine, that is if my wife doesn't spy it and steal it before I start chopping it up
Will take a couple of pics tomorrow if I make any sort of real progress....
Cheers
Good luck with the build Bruce
Will keep an eye on your progress
I used smaller steppers than what you are planning and have not had any problems with the machine being underpowered
regards,
Gully
