    Spindle for CNC router

    Hey guys,
I'm on my way to building a largish CNC router, but need advice on the spindle.
What is the advantage of air cool vs water cool, and where is the best place to get the spindle and controller?
    Thanks!
    Dan

    Hi,
I'm not really sure yet. Mabey just MDF and acrylic.
I think I will just use a wood router for now.
Any suggestions on a really good one?
    Thanks.

BTW, just thought you would like to see the CNC router I am building.

Here it is getting flipped over, as we built it upside down.

    And resting on it's legs:

So any advice on the spindle router would be awesome

    Thanks
    Dan

Don't really have any advice on a router, although your table looks fairly awesome so far...

With a table that big I'm surprised you don't have a clear idea of what you want to cut though, it's not exactly a 2 day project by the looks of it. :-)

When you use the Water-cooling Spindle, please replace water frequently or better use industrial chiller for cooling spindle.
Both watercooling and aircooling spindle are the same on the inner construction: circulate turn around coil for running.
Usually, the watercooling spindle noise is lower than the air cooling spindle noise.

    Thanks for the reply.
Has anyone had any experience with this one?

AIR-COOLE MOTOR SPINDLE 4KW AND MATCHING INVERTER n6 | eBay

I prefer air cooled, as I want to cut wood, and mabey water cooled is not suitable?

Or is there anywhere else I can get spindle motors apart from ebay?

I have a similar one but water cooled 4kw (i think) been running fine for the last 6 months. Was around 600$ all in. That was from china or hong kong.

    Hey Gaz,
Can you tell me where you got it from?
The one I'm looking at is over $900 shipped.
    Thanks

    Yep
interested also, but isn't 4kw a bit overkill for a hobby machine?

    HSD

    Hi BananaBoat

I have been in the CNC trade for over 10years now and i can only tell you that there is no better spindle than the HSD Spindle.

    ES929 - H6161H0806

These Spindles are also for automatic tool changer, and have got alot of grunt.
If you are gonna be cutting MDF ect you are going to want something with alot of KW.

I do know of a Machine that is being decommissioned and the spindle will be sold separately, but depending on what your budget is i guess. These spindles would cost you about $8 k second hand.
