Question Motor size and position important?

I note when looking at the bed of Joes 2006 that the motor is offset to one side, does it make any difference to it's operation?

If I were to scale up the design to handle 2440 x 1220 ( a standard mdf sheet ) would I need stronger Nema motors to deal with this?

Thanx all who reply in advance.

The gantry will weight much more and have more inertia, so yes.

That is an extremely large machine and would be an incredibly ambitious 1st build.
