Hey everybody. Finally made an account to this site after months of just browsing. Ideas floating arround in my head now that iI just have to impliment. Next you hear from me will be the start of the build of the first of probably many CNC machines (if this site is anything to go by). Anyway back to stripping old dot matrix printers for goodies. Which just gave me another idea. Why not just bolt 1 printer onto the head of another printer and a flat surface onto the head of the top priter and vohla x and y. Then suspend and third above this with a dremel or something bolted to its head above to make z. ofcoarse this requires working out the printers control circuits and if they can even move the wieght on another printer plus cutting forces ect. anyways enough silly thoughts time to start laying down some groundwork for a propper CNC mill. Which most likely use parts from the printers as they have some really nice rods and motors to scavange even if they don't get used in a mill. Now if I could work out what the bits on the control boards are. Many hours of searching for data sheats by few numbers on chips that are parttially scraped out (evil Apple). If anyone has schematics for an imagewriter 1 and 2 would be much apreciated. Well at least iv'e got something to think about at work (sitting in a call centre waiting for people to call at 11 o'clock at night gets rather boring).
Anyway thats enough typing for me those printers are calling.
Have a read of the JRGO and Joes2006 machine threads... I started building a JRGO ages ago and found it very easy to follow....
I don't know about the printer stuff, it might be worth persuing, I know I get alot of satisfaction from building things from scratch though.

Machinists do it with greater precision and less tolerance!
