    First Post - G'Day !

    Hi all

Have finally begun in earnest my NC Lathe conversion.

The lathe is a typical Chinese unit with approx 1m bed and 300mm swing.

I have the following parts for the conversion :

Delta 400W servo and amp for X axis (cross slide)
Delta 750W servo and amp for Z axis (long)
Kollmorgen 4kW servo and amplifier for Spindle (will be able to run in position mode)
Also intend to run a spindle on the toolpost for milling and radial drilling.

Will be running 2 x MPG's to make it easy to use like a manual lathe when required.

I intend to run MACH3 and am currently am trying to decide upon my breakout/isolation board arrangement. Suggestions ?

My main motivation for this conversion is the need to turn odd shapes and perform radial drilling & milling for my Amatuer rocketry work.

    CS

    Wink

http://www.cnc4pc.com/Store/osc/prod...roducts_id=182 Add a smooth stepper to this and you'll be solid. I have three systems like this and I just left the last on for week and it would go any time you touched it.

I'm not interested in steppers for this project, already have very capable servo's ie expect to get 250mm/s with 2um resolution (at the encoder) on the Z axis and 125mm/s and 1um resolution (at encoder) on the X axis.
The real issue I have is the limited step rate available out of the parallel port using MACH3. I can reduce resolution at the amplifier so that one step equates to a larger number of encoder pulses, which is the only way for me to achieve these high speeds (as far as I can see).

which take step and direction no problem.
