    Newbie needs help on spindles

    Hi,

I am building an 8x4 foot Router/Mill and I have just bought a Spindle from Canada (thinking it was made in Canada or the USA) but was only told after it was shipped that it was in fact made in Tiawan. That didn't upset me to much, but when it arrived it didn't have any documentation, not even a single piece of paper.
Since then after 3 weeks and many emails to the supplier I have minimal information, but nothing on the water cooling nor changing oil that the few words that I got refered to.

I keep getting fobbed off by the supplier (a shop or warehouse) saying that he will send the info in a few days everytime.

The water cooling has an inlet and outlet oposite each other and a third opening half way between the two forming a triangle and is unmarked.
The connectors are I believe 1/4" but I have never seen them before and are not like plumbing fittings (for example) and they do not look like compression fittings.

Can someone who has bought a spindle from Tiawan or China, and knows how to conect the water cooling up etc., help me out with some information please?

At the moment I don't even want to test it as otherwise I will have a very expensive boat anchor.

    My email address is: rbarnold@webways.com.au

Thanks in advance for any help
    Regards
    Roger

    Hi Roger,

When I get a chance I will have a look at my water cooled spindle and Vfd which is still in the box, and see if I have anything that may be of help.

    Cheers
    Tony.

Sorry to hear of Your woes.

    Thanks for the replies,
No there are no markings on the spindle other than "inlet & outlet" for the water cooling.
Thats why I am so upset, because I can't even find a manufactures name who I could track down.
Not only that but the company in Canada won't even give me those details and insists that he will provide what I want.
    The question is WHEN.

    Thanks again
    Roger

    Hi Zig,
    Thanks for your reply.
The spindle I have dose not look like yours, mine is just a single round cylinder with a smaller flange at the bottom with the collet holder in the middle. At the top there is a light green connector with four wires that connects to the inverter in the center, and to the left of this is the water inlet, to the right is the water outlet and to the top is a similar connector to the water in & out connectors but is unmarked.
The three of those connectors look identicle to the connector on the top of your spindle, even down to the colour of the plastic on top of the brass.
Do you know what those connectors are called and where I can get more information on them, for example how do you connect a tube to it?

The specs of my spindle are 24,000 rpm (top speed) 2.2kw 3 phase. The inverter that came with it connects to single phase input and supplies 3 phase out to the spindle. The inverter also controls the speed of the spindle.
The inverter was made in China and does have the make, model & manufacturer with it but they don't make the spindles or provide info for the spindles.
The inverter is an LEI 3000 A02D223B

I will try and upload a picture as soon as I can figure how to do it.
Again thanks Zig and everyone else

    Roger

    Roger,

My spindle sounds a little different to yours as well, the fittings on the top of mine takes the plastic John Guest 1/4" blue plastic tubing.
With mine I need to slip the knurled ring onto the tubing slide the tubing onto the spindle fitting then screw the knurled ring down onto the fitting which tightens the tubing to the fitting. Hope that helps.

    Google John Guest Fittings.

    Cheers
    Tony.
