Mach 3 can support USB hardware, can you post your specific 6040 model? actual picture of the CNC controller also helps
Hi,
Just discovered Mach 3 isn't compatible with the USB motion controller in my CNC 6040 router. The Machsupport FAQ says I need to upgrade to Mach 4 and install a PMDX SmartBob 414 motion controller. That sounds complicated for someone like me with little experience in electronics. Are there any other solutions? Are there other softwares that support a USB based router? Any help greatly appreciated.
regards,
Peter

Hi KHOUJ,
Thanks for your offer of help. This is a quote from the machsupport.com knowledgebase:
"The USB motion controller in your machine is not compatible with our legitimate software, so you will need to replace it with a compatible motion controller. That machine can be run with Mach3 or Mach4. What I recommend is installing a PMDX SmartBob 414. It is a panel mount motion controller that is compatible with Mach4 only and makes for a neat and easy installation."
I'm hoping this is wrong or there's another way around the problem. I've attached photos of the controller and router.
regards,
Peter
You could get a UC100, and then use it with either Mach3, or with UCCNC, which is cheaper and better than Mach3.
But you'll probably need to do some wiring modifications.

I'm not fussed with rewiring a control box. Bit out of my league. Be much better if I could find a software solution.
That's too bad. You should contact the seller because it seems he sold you something you can't use. There is no way out of this. You need to modify the box to make it work. Everything can not be solved with a software some times you need to get your hands on the hardware as well.

The machine must have come with some software that should control it?

The seller is insisting it will work once I load certain files into the Mach 3 folder on my computer. Most hobby level Chinese routers come with USB based controllers so they must have found a way to make them function. Otherwise why would they bother?
I finally managed to access these folders from a link they supplied. Some of it is based on pirating Mach 3 (pointless since I purchased it) and the rest is supposed to solve my problems.
If you purchased a legitimate license, then your machine should work if you install the appropriate Mach3 plugin.
Having said that, the particular motion controller and plugin may work better with an older version of Mach3 than the current one, but it's impossible to say for sure.

you have to install the "RnR-Motion" Plugin !

Yeah, well that is just so much crap.
When Chinese vendors start talking about "our legitimate software", it usually means they have supplied you with a pirate copy. I suspect they want to sell you the PMDX box as well.
The box you show looks like being just a spindle drive - unless there is a lot more inside than one might suspect.
More details needed.

DadaVinci ,
Open the cover on your CNC controller and post a few good images, I will determine what you have then if you want I can remote access your computer and attempt to correctly configure your CNC.

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.
That was Artsoft telling him they won't support the pirated software that came with the machine. When Chinese vendors start talking about "our legitimate software", it usually means they have supplied you with a pirate copy. I suspect they want to sell you the PMDX box as well.

Ah so. Fair enough.

I have the same USB CNCEST 6040 with 1500watt spindle. It does work with mach3. For full Mach 3 control you will have to change a few parameters in the VFD. If you search the forum for PRT-E1500W you will find some posts on setting the correct parameters. The motion control plug-in needs to be in the plug-in folder.
I have the exact same machine as you do. It took me a bit to get the right plugin, driver or whatever you want to call it installed in the right place and the mach three they sent with the machine, via download link, worked quite well. I made the mistake of then thinking the mach 4 would be a much better program and invested a little bit in a pmdx-414 adn 407 for the vfd control and installed it. Not an easy task if you are picky like me and want everything to work well. In short I would not do that again. The mach 3 that was supplied with the machine is much more intuitive than the mach 4 for the end user and has many more features or plugins that are easy and simple to use and figure out. Compare to the version of mach 3 i was given with the mill I would say that the mach 4 is still in early development stages and still needs a little more R&D before I would put it out as a finished product. Mach 4 appears to be more geared towards techies who want to be able to play around with tweeking and programming than actually operating a mill or lathe with it.
