Default RaptorX german CnC gantry question

    Hey G'day people,

Question re how is the X drive set up for RaptorX-SL1200/S15 Plastic Router / CNC Milling machine one of these machines.

I'm curious to the point of bursting a bubble. I like the way they drive their X the stepper/servos seem to be tucked away in the gantry. The only thing I don't like is the rack teeth up collecting dust and rubbish.

What is of interest is how the stepper/servo is connected to the rack.. Would I be correct in assuming the stepper is geared sitting on another gear which is attached to the plate on the side and a ratio of some sort is used there or its a one to one transfer and that then just sits on top of the rack?

Anyone have one of these types of machines or seen how or knows how the X is driven?

Perhaps a diagram or tear down if anyone has a link?

    Cheers and avagreatday.
    Steve

    Hey Daniel,

Belt drive as in the stepper is built into the gantry and belt from shaft to gear or belt drive as in pulling the gantry along the X?

    Cheers,

The Y axis looks like a direct gear drive on a rack ,maybe the same for the X axis as well .Exposed gear racks always worried me the thought of swarf or something getting in there being that they have to be greased and shearing the gear off .

    Hey G'day,

I thought that as well first but if you look at it closer it cant be direct drive as the rail is too high and the rack is much lower.

I have a feeling it is as the previous post belt driven to a gear on rack or two gears one mounted on the stepper and the other mounted on the plate.

    Im still guessing though..

    Cheers,
    Steve

It's call rack and pinion, most times it's belt drive from the stepper to the pinion, they do need a clean every now and then and if something is in the way if it does not stall the motor it will just get runned over

I understand its a rack and pinion I have one at home that I built. Where my intrigue is in how its set up in the gantry. its tucked away very neat nothing is exposed externally. I like the design and was wondering how it was done.
So are you saying that they are using a belt from stepper to pinion or guessing?

    Cheers,
    Steve

Fair chance its something similar to mine.

Recon I may have chucked up one of these already on my own thread, but u get that.

Its hard to see all of the relevant detail in the fotos, but too much time and mucking around to take more bits apart.

Not meant as a hijack, theres not really much to tell about it.

Its a store bought unit, just a cutter/plotter. Not a router as such, no height adjustment in Z direction. In fact that part is air driven, pressure adjusted by software parameters one can change. Its of a fair size (3200 x 3600mm).
