Unless you have been using Aspire to create 3D models from scratch, you may find that the current version of VCarve Pro does what you require. Download the trial version and take a peek, you may be surprised.
Hi all,
A couple of years ago, I bought a cnc router second hand and it came with Aspire 4 and Mach3. I find now that the Aspire was pirated but Mach3 was a genuine licensed copy. I now need to either buy a licenced copy of aspire or consider other alternatives. I find Aspire is good to use but I can only say that in ignorance of what other software is out there.
For a hobby operator, is Aspire the best option? Or are there better choices to be made?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Doug

It really depends on what you want or need to do.
If you don't need the 3D modelling in Aspire, V Carve Pro does almost everything else for less than half the price.
ArtCAM from Autodesk is similar to Aspire, but is available through subscription.
Many people are using Fusion 360, which is free for hobbyists.

(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)
I make carving patterns with ZBrush and General Image Manipulation Program as the zaplink setup. And I use a program called bmp2cnc to turn bmp raster files into g-code.
Or I make them into STL files for people who have the software needed to import them.
Here's the STL File download of this Celtic Cross image. It will expire in 30 days.

Thanks Gerry.
I'll check those others, esp Fusion 360. Free always sounds nice :-) The other links you sent were quite interesting too, in particular the Mach3 screenset. I've never found the std screen very intuitive.
Thanks again.
Thanks for that info and for the STL file.
