Just as the subject says, i'm seeing the linear bearing somewhat simple to make, has anyone tried making their own? Just am a newbie looking to keep costs down but still have a solid system.

what type of linear bearing and why do you see it as easy?

I should have said but in the subject i was thinking of making t-slot linear bearings just like the ones they sell, I figured if i could get the plastic milled to the right shape and simply cast or weld up a bracket equivilient to the 8020 system. Just wondering if anyone has done this

You can make your own bearings by buying your material from 8020 Surplus. They have linear bearings already made or you can purchase odd lengths and cut them to size and save cost yourself. I would suggest you check out their selection.

Making your own would be cake even without the use of a mill.

There is a new forum on linear motion in the Engineering section of this board....check it out - there are posts on this type of bearing.

Yeah, and it would still be as poor an option as the pre-made 80/20 ones...

Now, if someone came up with a cool 80/20 bearing using skate-bearings...that could be cool!!

Fair enough. Still, I think something custom with Skate Bearings to be used on 80/20 could be pretty cool. Maybe I will play with some ideas... ;)
