Hello everyone I have a converted manual mill,
and I am considering building a toolchanger for it.
The trouble I have is that the tool holders are sticking inside of the taper.
Usually I am forced to screw the drawbar back in a bit and hit on the top of it until it lets go of the taper so I can remove it.
is there anyone that have had similiar trouble to this, and that has a solution?

What kind of tooling is it and what kind of drawbar do you have? with mine, I am building a power drawbar and it will keep pressure down on the drawbar as it unscrews and that will be enough to pop mine free.
It is probably similar with the larger machines too.

JFettig, something like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=88433&item=5571249931&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Looks simple enough to build.

Look at the Tormach for ideas for an inexpensive solution. Most of the tapers for manual machines are as you describe.

I you want to use the CNC tapers used on larger systems....then it will most likely be quite costly....but the tooling will be readily available.

Dab, mine is similar, but I just press a button on the side of the head and I have an air cylinder to push it down onto the drawbar and loosen or tighten.

Its search "power drawbar" on google, there is a guy selling plans which I bought and heavily modified the design
