Let me start off by stating that I know very little about machine tools and the use of machine tools. However, I have been wanting to purchase a mill to do gunsmith type work. I was looking at manual machines, but have found a surplus V2XT about 60 miles from where I live. I have not seen the machine in person, so I do not know what is missing from it. I did not see any electronic equipment with it. My question is this, if the machine was cheap enough, say a couple hundred bucks, would it be worth purchasing and rigging it up with some type of basic control system, or would it be worth anything for parts ? If the mechanicals of the machine were good, what would retrofitting basic cnc controls cost ? I know that this is not much to go on, but I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

You really need to see the machine and take an inventory of what is there. It could be as bad as not even having the axis servo motors. All the electronics were in a large cabinet mounted to the side od the machine. coming out of the top was a arm to which the display was mounted. If the elctronics are there, then the biggest question is what vintage the elctronics are. These would fall into 2 general catogries. A machine with a FMDC board, or a machine with a BMDC board. There is a world of difference between them. Let us know.

How do I tell the difference between the two boards ? BTW, you can see pictures at govliquidation.com. Just type in Bridgeport in the search field. It's located at Cannon AFB, New Mexico. I am just trying to decide a rough idea of what it's worth. It's really more than what I need, as I think a small manual mill would suffice, but if it's a bargain, i'd go for it. (It WOULD be nice to have a CNC controlled mill !!) :D

I did take a look. It seems the motors are there as well as the electrical cabinet. I do not see the monitor assembly but there is a pile of stuff to the left of the machine including a splash guard. This makes sense as to the right is the flood coolant tray and pump. BUT, it looks like the knee crank shaft is missing and there is a lot of rust on the table and way surfaces. I cannot tell what electrical guts as inside the cabinet because there is no serial number given for this machine and no picture of the inside.

Thanks again. If I can get over there, I'll take some pics so we can get a better idea of what's missing, and what's there.
