Wow !

I'm not sure how to feel about this announcment.

DelCAM's PowerMill is one of the best designed pieces of CAM software for surface milling that I have ever seen. I'd go as far as to say it's brilliant.

PowerShape has some good ideas but IMO has lacked proper development. If the surface creation technology in PowerShape was added to the solids in FeatureCAM and vise versa it would dramaticly improve both products. Assembly would still have to be dealt with.

DelCAM charges very high prices and does not understand the US mentality.

I don't think this announcement is very old. Thanks for posting it.

Too bad EGS didn't by DelCAM. LOL

I also am not sure how I feel about this.

We are currently taking a look at FeatureCAM and Christian from EGS has offered to send us a temporary dongle to fully try the software. He has also offered to modify/develop a post for our Mazak Integrex which is our current problem child. I want to take advantage of these offers as soon as some logistical issues on my end get taken care of.

BUT NOW we have this announcement. We are long-time SmartCAM users here and we have already gone through the process of watching our CAM system die because SDRC wanted programmers and on SmartCAM when they purchased CAMMEX. I’m not saying FeatureCAM will follow the same fate, but it does give me something to think about. (As a side note; I know that SmartCAM is currently back in development, but it currently does not support our Integrex.)

This would seem to give DelCAM some products for markets that it doesn’t (as far as I can tell) currently serve like Turning and EDM. Is this why they bought EGS?
