This can't be that hard.

I have just gotten the new MC and a new Haas Mill.

Trying to do a simple facing operation but taking multiple steps.

I tried this:
Using a 2 inch face mill, set tool defaults to 0.05 max rough Z step, .005 max finish Z step.
Zig Zag pattern
Cut parameters: multi pass with 1 finish pass
Stock setup shows .25 inches of material to remove.

Every time, it takes entire amount in one pass and unchecks the multi pass box.

Any ideas?

Lee

And, are there any MasterCam certified instructors in the Madison WI area?

You'll need to set "depth cuts" if you want multiple passes in the Z axis.

Are you using X4 or X4-MU1 ?

Using X4

I checked the box in "depth cuts" filled in
max rough 0.01
# of finish cuts 1
Finish Step 0.005"
Mashed the blue +

the problem is, every time I exit the screen, it un-checks depth cuts

There was definitely some bugs causing issues like this with the original X4 release.

If you've got maintenance you'll want to download X4-MU1. If you don't have maintenance you may want to consider it. Either that or roll back to X3-MU1... I was pretty happy with that release.

I agree with Matt. The original release of X4 was so bug ridden that our company wouldnt even consider saving a single part file in it. I just used it to get used to the new look and some of the new strategies.

Its unbelievable to me that they would not release a service pack for X4 to fix the bugs in the original release for the people that are not on maintenance. If you were to buy the original release of X4 without maintenance ( I know a company that did this ) then you are stuck with a system that is faulty to a point that it is unacceptable.

Today alone I was using Transform Toolpath to create a grid of parts and the system crashed four times in a row costing time and money. In the past two weeks X4MU1 has crashed over 50 times using various different functions.

That being said, X4MU1 is still no peach. It still has an unbelievable amount of bugs in it. In fact, there are things that are broken now that worked in past releases. X4MU1 is a breath of fresh air compared to the original release of X4 but as far as I am concerned it is still bug ridden and unacceptable.
