Does any one have a cad drawing of an official sized pool / billiard table?
I want to make sure I get the holes positoned within the table correctly.

Could you please post it in this thread.

Any other carpentry plans to do with table design would be appreciated.

Thanks Joe, I will use that as a bases of starting to design and build my own table.

I am thinking to include a ball return also.
If any one has made a table b4 I would love to know any tips and things to avoid.

I want to use my CNC router as much as possible for this project, and will start a work log for the whole process.

I see that there are heaps of plans for sale on the net, but i hope to create a set of plans free for download of the Zone. Any input from anyone would be much appreciated.

EDIT: I am thinking to use chipbaord coated in melamine as the underfelt surface. Does any one think this will be hard enough? Could the melamine dent and retain its dent under normal use?

I think you'll get dents, Benny. I think maybe high density fiberboard might be better, if you can get it.

Benny I think 1 1/2" slate would make a nice table surface! :p On the other hand you might vacuum bag two or three layers of fiberglass on the surface of mdf and then sufrace it with your cnc to get it level and smooth. I think the melamine will dent also. If you use mdf or high density you need to be sure and completely seal and paint all exposed surfaces or your work will be in vain.

Slate is whats used in most tables but I guess its expensive. Maybe just a sheet of fibre cement which you can get that up to an inch thick.

Italian slate is regarded as the best surface to use, however there are other sythetic surfaces.

A few that come to mind are Slatron, Permaslate and MDF.

if you wanna go cheap, you could use mdf under the felt .. and just pockets .. i think the vp of the my old job bought one for the company ( to help lighten the mood as it was downsize time) .. it was not the full size but i think a 3/4 or 4 by 6 -- it worked .. after several weeks, it seemed the balls could have their own trajectory ( like a putting green) when rolling slowly .. so i think even the mdf was subject to some warpage ...

Many years ago I built an old fashioned style pool table, with leather pouch pockets and tassles, carvings on the skirt etc.
I used a material I believe was called densite (asbestos and cement, for the bed. Worked very well, but asbestos is now a NO NO (maybe that's why I got melanoma) but the material Hasher refers to should work.Jimini
