Today I had to put a full radius on the front of a shaft.

A note to what does not work, LOL.

BTW: These Shafts are 60Rc Case Hardened .08 thick. We are using Ceramic Inserts. The feeds and Speeds need a little tweaking but in due time.

G3X1.575Z-.7875R.7875 << The machine wants to cut past 90 Degrees for some reason. So I changed it to G3X1.575Z-.7875I0.K-.7875 and all is well.

Why is a 1987 Fanuc 10T on a Dainichi BX45 Slant able to do this (G3X1.575Z-.7875R.7875) and a NEW HAAS not able to do this simple task??

Seems pretty strange. Any Ideas??

Look in the Haas Settings for #43 Cutter Comp Type which has two selections A or B and change it to the other selection and see if it makes a difference.

Or maybe, the tool start point (X0) puts the X tip of the tool on center, not touching the part except a distance away from center on the Z. The subsequent R word then creates a radius from that point, and goes more than 90 degrees. Changing to I and K redefined where the arc center is supposed to be. Here's what I'd probably program:

You have a Point with the TNR Comp. I did change the first Sequence in the canned cycle by Omitting the G42 as well as using the I and K Designations.

I have to make 2 more of these tomorrow and i will look into the Parameter #43 and the TNR Comp.

I just thought it was weird that an older control was able to do this and the new one seemed to have a brain fart.

In times like these I thank God for "Old School".

BTW: anyone use the Greenleaf Ceramic CNGA432 T1 WG-300 Inserts. Their website does not provide Recommendations SFM, DOC, or IPR and i do not want to waste inserts.

My Feeds, Speeds, and DOC's seem a little on the light side. Heck I don't even know if I should be using coolant with these inserts. My best guess is "No Coolant" but I am a bit hesitant, LOL.:D
