My boss 5 has frozen up and will do nothing. When you power it up the limit switch light comes on you can push it and it will go out. put the machine in set up and you can do nothing. The lights that show the selection of line numbers,feed rate, tool number and ect. are all lit but you can not select any individaul one or can you select which axis you want to watch. I can not MDI in a program. I also have a BTR from Cook and cannot down load from it either. I have tried an LSI board from another machine but no sucess. Any body have any suggestions.

This may take some diagnosis. At first read, it seems that the UFB board behind that switch panel is not talking to the XDI board. But it seems that the machine is booting correctly and that the 24 VDC string with limit switches is ok.
When you press the reset switch, does the machine reboot? If yes, then this means that logic voltages are good and ERS (with BOSS software) is talking to the LSI-11 (mother board). The RCK is a clock card. The XDI is best described as a Input/output board. Check all connectors. Note that the UFP is VERY static sensitive. You can also try pulling each logic board out, making sure it is clean and cleaning the edge connector with a soft pink eraser. Then put it back in firmly.
Is there any numbers displayed when the machine boots? Or are they all zeros? Is the ERR light lit? There is the outside chance that the tube that the wires go through to the control may have cut a wire. Especially if you swing the arm back and forth.

Sorry for not get back sooner but I am machining manualy now to make dates. When you talk about the reset switch are you talking about the clear-reset switch inside the cabinet where the tape reader is. I am not sure what you mean by the ERR light. I will be working out there tonight so I can check these things.

Yes, I did mean the reset switch behind the tape reder door.
The ERR light is actually a LED. It is on the right side of the control panel, just above the 7 segment display. Other LEDs in the group are TLO, etc.

How did the Ajax retrofit work out?
