View Full Version : Router Mount Diagram Porta Cable 892

Hey Guys and Gals;
I'm almost finished with a servo driven cnc router project and need to fabricate a mount for the 892 Porta Cable router. I'm trying to source a diagram for the mount(s) to prevent having to re-invent the wheel. I have a benchtop cnc mill with lotz of aluminum scrap from my router build and can do all the machining at home. I can work with most drawing formats having bobcad, alibre and autocad available.
Any help will be appreciated. Please, someone save me some time!!!

K2 sells them - I think they're around $40. If you really want to do it yourself, it's pretty easy to measure the router and draw up a plate. If you don't have the router already (and so can't measure it), I'd recommend something else. I've had bad luck with my 892. My 10 year old 1.5HP Dewalt easily outperforms it.

It's a 3.5" hole in a square plate.

I looked at K2's mount but they are $50 now and I don't want to spend that much on this minor part. Gerry, the 3.5" was the magic dimension and I sketched up a mount in about 5 minutes using K2's pictures but not totally copying his design. Mine is designed around my z axis of course.
jsheerin, I'm kind of surprised you like the dewalt better. I was under the impression that the porta cable was the better router. Well, guess I'll know better the next time. Unfortunately, the PC is already on its way.

I can't actually use the Dewalt - it's too short. However I was having problems with my PC and decided to swap in the Dewalt as a sanity check. It cut multiple times deeper at higher feeds without any problems than the PC using the same bit in the same material. Actually I think there's something wrong with my PC - I can't see it being designed to work as it does. But when I took it in to the service center, they couldn't find anything wrong with it, so I'm done with it. I just bought a 3.7kW spindle to replace it. Hopefully I won't have problems with that.
