Nice nuts! Larry Hi Woodie1, Glad you liked the 1/2-10's, I've been getting a lot of good feedback on them. Our hobby needs something in between the sloppy steel nuts and expensive ball screws/nuts... I hope I'm helping fill that slot. Again I'll apologize for not being able to make the 3/4-6 leadnuts. I had told you that I'd "try" to make them and that I couldn't find a suitable spring. Then that I'd have to put your leadnuts on hold due to not having the proper tooling for a thread that deep and I only haven't replied to one email I received a couple days ago... my answer is the same, the 3/4-6 threads require a deep acme threading tool that I don't have. I also don't have a tool for the trapezoidal (metric acme) threads yet. I'm just getting started at this and it will take a bit to get the specialized tooling. Tim dumpsterCNC http://gonebowlin.com/dumpsterCNC/ cnc2k 03-08-2005, 07:59 AM dumpster, How accurate can you get with your "nuts"? I'm planning to buy couple 1/2-10 to try out. dumpster 03-08-2005, 09:38 AM cnc2k, These leadnuts put my cnc router at less than .0005 backlash, I use the 1/2-8 (2 start) screws. My 1" travel indicator can't tell me any closer than that really... I have backlash comp turned off in Mach2 (finally). I feel these leadnuts are zero backlash but can't guarantee it, you also have to take into account other factors that cause backlash such as endplay of the motors (if direct drive), pullies, belts, mounts, etc... plus the actual acme screw has a tolerance, usually .009 per foot. Tim Xerxes 03-08-2005, 10:41 AM I managed to build pretty good nuts from brass. Idea is little bit similar to that derling nut but without spring loading. See it here: http://www.students.tut.fi/~kontkant/jv2.php.html Last time I adjusted the nut, I got less than 0.005 mm backlash (0.0002"). Woodie1 03-08-2005, 07:13 PM Can you give more details on how you made the nuts? Thanks dumpster 03-09-2005, 12:44 AM Larry, check your email. |
