We have a VF4 (1996). Does anyone know if it has spindle orientation. Would like to put on a 90 Deg. head and was wondering if I could orientate it to a certain deg. other than the home orientation.

My guess is no. When you orient the spindle with M19, it engages a pin into a cam at the top of the spindle.

Command the following in MDI:

M19;
M19 P90.;
M30

The spindle should rotate the drive lugs parallel to X axis, then if you have the "Option" it will rotate 90 degrees from that position. If you do not have the "Option" it will stay at the first position or "Not Available" will pop up on your screen.

The 90 degree head has to be located by a pin in a block bolted to the end of the spindle housing. Spindle orientation has no effect on the position of the 90 degree head, but many of them can be adjusted to almost any angle relative to the X Y directions, only not under program control it has to be set and locked.
