We have an optic eye torch that has quit working,we had a technician (that we think had no clue what was going on, he couldn't turn the machine on) look at it and said it needs a new board but it may still not fix it.We put the machine to the side and have now decided to fix it. We cut from 1/4 plate to 2" plate with different patterns, can we change this machine from optic eye to cnc? If so what do we need? Also would it be best to leave it as propylene/oxygen or go with laser? Any infromation would be greatly appreciated. I can also post pictures, we have stored it and is not easy to take pictures of but if we can find a way to fix it we will get it out of storage.Thank you in advance.

Depends on what optical trace system is on there, if you can reuse the servo and amps then you just need to hook up a CNC package of some kind. It is a big jump from oxy/gas to laser, major dollars for the laser, there is also plasma to think of.
What make of table? and is it steppers or servo motors?

I believe they are servo motors (not familiar with electronics though). Ther are four wires going to each motor red, white, green, and black, but how can I tell what kind of motor? The machine is a novitome cd-480 with an hl-8 head. If we go plasma will there be a great amount of taper on a 2" thick plate? Would it be easier to post pictures so you could see what I have as far as controls to work with and the table, and also do you sell the material I would need to get it running?

It sounds like you have DC servo's which should be re-usable, do they have a label of any kind?, possibly the amps are re-usable too, 2" is getting up there, even for Plasma, you could always make it a dual machine for Gas & Plasma. A pic. would help if you can post one.
