I am in the middle of a retrofit of an old Comet CNC knee mill. I have the old control stripped and really only require about a third of the space used for the old control. The cabinets for the old control are basically modular with a cabinet on either side of the machine and then a storage cabinet in the rear. I am torn about keeping or stripping the cabinets because they certainly can be useful just for general storage of tools etc. The one problem I have though is that the machine is equipped with flood cooling but I am not sure about the details of the cooling system. Flood cooling was apparently an option for this Fanuc based CNC and all the elements seem to be there, i.e. there is a spigot and a hose coming out of the base of the mill, there are wires which I assume go to the pump and there are drains in the base. What I don't have is an access panel and will most likely need to strip the cabinets to get to the pump (I need to figure out voltage and phase of the pump). I really don't have much experience with flood cooling and am not sure how common this is. There doesn't seem to be a way to fill or check the coolant level or even drain or change it. Does anyone know anything about this type of system? As far as cabinets go, does anyone have a source for other enclosures in case I decide to remove the excess cabinetry?
