I have a '91 4020 {cnc88} and I'm trying to max the memory in the control. A call to Fadal pointed me towards a REM 93 (128k) Aadd-on card for my existing memory board (1400-2a w/ a 1810-0 plug in card).
Fadal tried to convince me I'll never find what I need and offered me a control upgrade for @ $3,500.00. I'd appreciate and guidance to help me find this item.
Attached pic's show my existing card and the plug-in card
Thanks
Bill

I have givin up on this myself.
my machine is a few years newer than yours (still DC though) and they tell me I can get the mem upgrade, it is approx $5g CDN plus installation. All this so I can have half the memory of my pocket calculater? WTF. Definately not worth it IMO.
If I absolutely had to run from my machine control I would upgrade the whole control system.

I currently DNC most of my programs, and if I have some production to do I just keep tweaking the code to get it down to the 2000 (approx) lines that the 88HS will handle, if possible.

CNCPros sent me to fadal
darebee, what software you DNC with, I'm running Gibbs

I DNC with "XPert DNC"
I used NCNet lite once and then I got my VisualMill 5 upgrade, which had added XPert DNC to the software package.
I feed the machine from a laptop.

Your machine maybe has the built in PC beside the control?
I know they all came packaged from Fadal with Gibbs.
Wait a minute your machine is too old to have that control setup.

I will need to seek further info. Sounds like what I'm looking or. I don't know the actual amt. I curently have in the sys. now, but whatever was installed in the orig. set up is what I have. Do you know for a fact if yours will plug in and perform with out any issues? I appreciate your help.

Let me e-mail you a pic, you can tell me if it looks like it will fit.

I took it off when I switched my -4 boards to a -5. I eneded up with a 4 meg memory card and this 422 expansion card was a left over. I was just out cleaning my garage cabinets and ran across all of these boards I had and this one reminded me you were looking.

It was taken off my machine in working condition about 6-8 months ago, so it should be fine, I just don't know if it will fit your system card.

Belay that let me see if I can just post a pic or two here....if not I'll e-mail them to you...

hang on a sec....

I have the same (4160-2) plug in here on my desk, problem is (see 2 pic's on 1st page) my card only supports the 4 chip plug in as shown. The card FADAL told me I need is a REM 93 (128k). I never seen one but it's what my control will accept. Did that board come from a '94 machine or newer?
thanks for you effort

Oh, duh, I totally missed those pics. I see the plugs are different. I just did not look close and assumed you had those plugs that are spaced wide.

Yea it came off of a 95'.

I just looked through Fadals site at the online parts order, I don't see that PCB listed.

Best bet is e-bay I guess if CNC pros did not have it.....cross the fingers maybe someone else will see this post and have your part.

Good luck.

Dave

Are you saying that your card in the '94 is the same as the one in my pic's on the first page?

hi, i am a factory trained fadal tech. i have my own service company now.
your problem is in your cpu. a -2 system was never designed to dnc.
i have complete -5 systems with 422 expanded memory for 4000.00 canadian

I'm not looking to get that far into this. Ultimatley I'm looking for the R.E.M. 93 card which is the "upgrade" for the -2.

I don't know if my machine is a -2 are not, but it DNCs perfectly fine IMO.

BTW where abouts is AMHERSTBURG (compared to Stratford), I am looking for a new (and good) Fadal service tech. also have some other references for service opportunities.

what state are you referring to?
the -2 is the 1400-2 memory card in the machine, my machine is a '91

Sorry to tell you this but the pictures are of the software module NOT the memory module. In addition the CPU board does not have the expansion sockets for the memory upgrade - too old!

You can put almost all of the Fadal controls in DNC Mode. Instead of typing TA,1 to load to the memory, use DNC and send from your favorite DNC package. Predator CNC Editor Express will do it for $250 or step up to DNC/1 for faster communication and use the Xmodem at 115K.

You can give it a test drive of the Predator Software @ www.cncnetworking.com
You can also have our DNC package break up your BIG program in to smaller programs so it will fit into the control memory if you want. Let me know how I can help...
