i am having trouble getting cavity milling rough and finish to machine all the way to the bottom of curved pockets the cutter is small enough and ball nosed and the cut level is sufficiently deep whats going on? if roughing with 1/2 ballnose finishing with 1/4 ballnose what would be the best strategy? rounds are 1.8 inches wide and .9 deep it does not finish to depth.83699

I have found that using a mill area of only the faces I want to cut works much better with cavity milling. You don't have to screw around setting the depth ranges and it just works better. I also use the level based IPW so the next tool only cuts the remaining material left from the previous operation.

Cavity mill is strictly a z-level operation, in other words 2 1/2 d, and will not follow a curved surface at the bottom of the cavity. Use Cavity mill to rough and a mill area operation to finish.
