Al AgentD 02-13-2005, 01:40 PM Al, Thanks for the reply. I need something to run the mill with my laptop, I'm using window's xp proffesional, I've tried Mach 2, doesn't work. So it was suggested to try a dos program. I need to create a dos boot cd, ( Which I have no clue how to do ), plus I need a dos program to run my g code to the mill. I'm assuming I can take my gcode, copy and paste into the dos program to run the mill. I hope anyway. Any clues? Thanks! Al_The_Man 02-13-2005, 01:47 PM I dont run the parallel port type CNC but there are many links in these forums that do if you use search, TurboCNC is one I believe is used by some. Al NC Cams 12-18-2005, 03:04 PM You have several issues involved. To create a bootable DOS CD, you need to have software that will create a bootable CD. Just because software will burn a CD does not mean that it will burn a bootable CDROM. One outfit who sells such a program is MAGIX.COM The PC will make a floppy disk bootable if you run the SYS program from a DOS prompt. You can then copy whatever else you want to. We've had "issues" with trying to run some DOS software on XP and other later Win(whatevers) after Win98SE. Keep that in mind if after all this, you still can't get things to run/work Al_The_Man 12-18-2005, 03:31 PM You can get the latest stand-alone DOS 7.1 from this site and make a bootable CD. supports long file names etc. http://www.cn-dos.net/msdos71/ Al. CJL5585 12-20-2005, 10:26 PM Warning: In order to run TurboCNC or any DOS based program, you will need a computer loaded only with a DOS operating system, or Win95 or Win98. I am not sure whether you can run dos on an XP machine or not. I know that one cannot run dos under the XP operating system, as the parallel port is not directly addressable by the XP operating system. Mach3 will run under XP, but has specially designed drivers for the purpose. Jerry mcmmach 12-22-2005, 05:02 AM Does anyone have a DOS program I can use for my mini-tech mill? You may find it easier to pick up a cheap hard drive and install it as the second hard drive with a DOS operating system, then when booting your computer go into setup and select it as the first boot device. If you create programs using the win xp drive just save the files to the DOS drive and reboot to use your DOS program. This is necessary because win xp will recognize a DOS drive but a DOS system will not recognize a win xp drive. Dean |
