What is better to make a 24 x36 " table out of, wood or all metal?

I made mine out of wood only because of cost, but metal would be better if you want super accurate cut's.Wood can be made to be stiff, but it would depend IMO on size of machine.

Use the wood one to make the parts for a metal one.

metal base covered in wood is the best of both worlds..
ridgid and a cheap replaceable cover in the event of a miscalculation..

Not that I've ever put the bit into the deck by accident :D but I have heard of it happning.

Were is a nice 24 x 36 to consider. I am building one. Very rigid and promises to have very low amounts of "slop" in the system by using Hiwin linear slides and Ballscrew and Actuator, zero lash lead screw and nut assemblies. With an Aculux laser digitizer, Mach1 NC controller software, Visualmill 4, and Rhino 3D I will be in the door for about $7200 . Also uses NEMA 34, 521 oz. steppers and Gecko drivers.

Should be a cutting motorscooter. Check it out!

We're making our frame out of 2" square tubular steel with a 1" thick wood table top. Nice rigid table with renewable work surface.
