sidecar82 01-29-2005, 02:04 AM I got these at Kitts a local tool store
sidecar82 01-29-2005, 02:14 AM 6 inch vice sides are ground square so that vice can be placen on its side
8 inch rotary chinese imitation Kitts said that if the handel is cranked
and cranked so that the table is rotated 760 dregees or more
eventually it will jam? any body hear of that?
sidecar82 01-29-2005, 02:21 AM 50 volt DC motors
sidecar82 01-29-2005, 09:27 PM how about 3 of these for power supply
they are $4.95 24 volts 2 amps
http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G14276&variation=&aitem=3&mitem=4
sidecar82 01-29-2005, 09:30 PM another choice
http://www.mpja.com/productview.asp?product=12418+PS
$39.95 24 volt 4.5 amp
JFettig 01-29-2005, 09:32 PM I dont think you would be able to power one of those motors with 3 of them.
Take a look at the 10a 24v transformer or 2, maybe more from mpja
Jon
sidecar82 01-29-2005, 09:47 PM Is this right volts X Amps = Watts
first one 24X2=48 watts
last power supply 24 X 4.5 = 108 watts
http://www.mpja.com/category/Four_or_More_Outputs/+28V@14_2A,_-28V@14_2A,_-15V@13_3A,_+10V@10A__SUPP_15057_PS.asp
28x14=292
JFettig 01-29-2005, 10:04 PM Sidecar, do a lot of reading:)
Youll have to figure out the power requirements for those motors, how they work along with the drives and everything else, maybe start a thread for your own conversion.
Jon
sidecar82 01-29-2005, 10:25 PM 36 volts 8 amps 100 bucks

sidecar82 01-29-2005, 11:18 PM 48 volt DC Voltage Adjustment 2 models 41-56 Volts and 20-26.4 Volts
$169.00
http://www.usdigital.com/products/ps320/
thinking of 41-56 volts
ViperTX 01-29-2005, 11:42 PM I suspect those Ametek motors are rated at 50 VDC at a maximum of 10 to 12 amps. So, at a minimum I would find a 48 VDC power supply that will supply 30 to 40 amps. These should be commom Telco power supplies. Or buy yourself a toroid, a bridge rectifier, and some Sprague electrolytics caps 47,000 mfd at 75 VDC from http://www.mouser.com The toroid are available on ebay for about 40 bucks...you'll need one that has two 37 VAC secondaries at 15 amps that you will need to parallel.
sidecar82 01-30-2005, 02:19 PM here is another power supply
24 volt at 8 amps 59.00 dollars

what you think?
sidecar82 02-03-2005, 02:05 AM I ordered e2-250-125 today from us didital

dont make a misstake in the order
Tested out computer that will be used
Need to get 1/8 reamer and drill for it and some dowels too
May start drilling holes in the ends of the dc motors
Question could the dc motors be used on a wind mill
to charge battries then if a DC spindle drive is used?
I would be Plug it in the wall less
did you here about the guy that converted every thing in his house to
12 volts and got his electricty from the phone lines !!!!
sidecar82 02-03-2005, 02:24 AM 50 volt Servo motor too big?
Halfnutz 02-18-2005, 11:42 AM I have a Homier also, and a HF 33686 too. The Homier is a real bargain for the price, and a nice little machine. I dont know about using if for a retrofit, I am going to convert the big one to cnc.
Axel Dog 04-05-2005, 05:23 PM Hi,
I too have the homier 1.5 hp mill/drill. I am interested in the cnc conversion but are there any other options for anit-backlash lead screws other than rolled ball bearing lead screws?
balsaman 04-05-2005, 08:46 PM Yes. You can used ground screws is you have lots of money. You can use the original acme screws if you don't have much. The rolled ballscrews are a happy medium at a reasonable price.
Eric
Axel Dog 04-05-2005, 11:51 PM Eric, How would you get anit-backlash out of the existing screw?
balsaman 04-05-2005, 11:59 PM My nuts had an antibacklash mechanism built in. Kind of a split nut with a bolt. I am not saying it's ideal but it's an option. Most fellows who have tried it have had limited success.
Eric
sidecar82 04-06-2005, 05:37 AM ALaddie
here is a picture for yaa
its all in what you want and how much you want to spend
and were its going to set I have a guy at work thats building a
10 foot by 5 foot gantry
I have been reading and all I know
is if you buy a Geco you will only buy them once it can run
a big or small machine easy to use just need screw driver
but they cost more than a low power steppers set up
ie computer power supply powered 12 Volt
sidecar82 08-09-2005, 05:19 AM well its been a long time since last post
I have been reading as jFettio recomended
Oh yes have been working long hours at work as well
Its been a bit of a nerver racker buying all this stuff
I have collected lots of stuff
this is my second try at bulding a machine to cut stuff
well third
as I have all ready built the hobbie cnc foam cutter
it was easy and fun uses old computer power supply
drawer slides 5/16-24 threaded rod piece of angle iron with a tapped hole
no big deal under 300 bucks
so I left off trying to get some one to make my decisions about
what power supply to buy here is what I bought and its not stuff
http://www.mpja.com/category/Three_Output_Supplies/28V_15A,_DUAL_14V_3A_UNIPOWER_SUPPLY_15367_PS.asp
they fit Great in a old computer case
AS the BRITISH would say Bloddy Marulous just incredable
Its not a bad Idea to wear safty glasses I need glasses to see now

sidecar82 08-09-2005, 06:06 AM got some 4 X6 tubing for fixture to drill encoder shaft hole
used 12 volt battery charger to power motor put grease on end of shaft
with the motor spinning drill will find true center also after 1/8 dowel
is put in place you can see if it spins true they say the human eye can only see
5 thousands of run out
sidecar82 08-09-2005, 06:10 AM encoder housing 4 needed Note encoder did not come with the screws

sidecar82 08-09-2005, 06:58 AM test fit of Y axis there were isues with the tapered dowel pins
as to possible turn then in to bolt holes so there is a 4 bolt pattern
like a 4 bolt main bearing on a big bolck engin\e
also did not have a taper dowel pin reamer i mean how much stuff do you need?
sidecar82 08-09-2005, 07:10 AM Y axis assemblie used vbx bearings roton ball screws 3/4 dia
I turned the ball screws on a lebond lathe with a carbide tool bit
turned the ball screw down to 15 mm for the vbx bearings then
cut it to 14 mm for threads lathe dident have metric so used 20 threads per inch
as the coarser the thread the deeper you have to go you will see more pic in X axis
sidecar82 08-09-2005, 07:12 AM yep tooo long got to grind off better not to short
sidecar82 08-09-2005, 07:15 AM Y axis done

Halfnutz 08-10-2005, 01:06 AM All right! Its great to see you off to a good start! That PS should have plenty of huevos and then some. Geckoes, your in biz, man! I dont know the slightest thing about servos, other than Geckoes are the way to drive them. The computer case looks nice, you did a nice job with the wires and the layout. When your done you can machine a custom front cover with your new CNC machine!
Wow! Your post hit right before mine so I'm editing out some of this post.
Good job, everything looks great, I like your design of the Y axis motor mount. Keep up the great pictures!
Whose ballscrews are those? How much were the ballnuts?
The above comments are the authors and do not represent the oppinions of CNCZone or its management.

Hello, your conversion looks great!
Can you please provide more details regarding you oil/lube configuration for the ways?
I am beginning to see more examples of this but no one has provided any details regarding its design and operation.

Question?
if you have a broken lap top
Can you still use the screen as a monitor
It's sometimes possible with some laptops but it ain't easy.
You'll have to find out the pinout of your lcd/tft screen and even then it's a 50% chance you can make it work with videocard wich has a "Vesa Feature Connector".
It takes a lot of soldering but it has been done before.
Btw, I like your approach,
Jeroen
JFettig 10-18-2005, 03:08 PM Possible.... sometimes. Worth the money? the answer is NO.
The controller for laptop lcds will cost twice what you can buy a 17" lcd for sometimes.
I know of a few laptop lcds which would be nice to have as desktop lcds, like my 15.4" 1680x1050 lcd in my laptop, but other than that, they typically arent that great other than physical size.
