I just bought an older (late 80's) Hardinge CHNC1 CNC Lathe from a friend. He had it running in his shop but was having an intermittent problem with the machine when it starts up. When I hit the "Control On" button, the crt starts up, gives a "2000 ORD1 Emergency Stop" alarm and shuts everything down including the CRT. Unfortunately it is not intermittent for me, I cannot get the machine to stay on at all. Anyone ever seen this before or have any ideas? I have talked to Hardinge about it a couple of times but they dont seem to know what it is. They suggested I pull out the control unit and send it to Siemans to have it reconditioned. That is going to be expensive. I was hoping someone had an idea on the forums before I spend the big bucks to have a service person come in to help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Try holding the on button until the crt comes on. We have one machine that this works on.

Hardinge rues the day they got "In Bed" with Siemens.

I have seen the E-stop switch wiring come loose behind the switch from all the novices frequent slamming of the "Save my ass red button!"

Check for loose wires on the E-stops, it can cause all kinds of trouble.
