View Full Version : Anyone order a 10 X 22 Grizzly lathe?
Astroguy 05-18-2009, 01:06 PM I just found out that the G0602 that I ordered a month ago and was told it would ship around May 22 will not ship until July.
I really do not want to wait is there a good alliterative to the G0602??
hoss2006 05-18-2009, 02:03 PM The G0602 10 x 22 is worth the wait but here are a few others to look at that are close to the same price.
Top Tech 10"x22" Bench Lathe (http://www.penntoolco.com/catalog/products/products.cfm?categoryID=5961) from Penntool, doesn't have the 1 inch spindle bore or tapers of the G0602 10x22, accessories are extra.
9" x 29" Bench Lathe (http://www.wttool.com/product-exec/product_id/44724/nm/9_x_29_Bench_Lathe_WT_Import_) from Wholesale Tool, an extra long version of the common 9x19.
For a few more dollars
11" x 26" Lathe With Stand (http://www.wttool.com/product-exec/product_id/14795/nm/11_x_26_Lathe_w_Stand) from Wholesale Tool, cheaper than the Grizzly 11x26 (http://grizzly.com/products/G9972Z)
and comes with a stand. I almost got this one instead of my 10x22 but it was just too heavy.

Yea, I may have to wait that one is too heavy and i just can`t find any thing better.
Hans_G 05-18-2009, 02:53 PM I advise hanging in there... I ordered mine in February, was told it would arrive May 25th, but then it showed up in mid March. I recently installed a DRO (cheapo from ebay) and am really amazed at how capable the thing is.
Edit: Depending on where you live... there's a used one for sale in Texas (Dallas/FtWorth area) on the yahoo 10x22 group board. The guy is asking $750.

I think I'll just wait and hope it will come in sooner. I already bought a bunch of extras for it, like a PhaseII QCTP and some tooling.
cbulen 05-20-2009, 03:40 AM Are the chucks that it comes with any good, or if I were to buy this lathe, should i look at replacing those?

Nothing wrong with the chucks at all, the 3 jaw has practically no runout.
The toolpost is worth replacing with a QCTP though.

thinking man 06-06-2009, 02:24 PM Hi! This is my first entry after signing up for this site well over a year ago. I did find some information helpful today as I was reading about the G0602 lathe. I am new to machining and just finish a intro. class at the community college here in the city. I have signed up for the next class which will cover lathes, mills, surface grinders, and will have to make a project using those tools. Class starts in August, so I wanted to get a jump on at least learning to do threads on a lathe.
I did order a G0602 lathe back in middle of April and was told they would be in approximately May 25. I cancel the order in the middle of May as something came up as I didn't think I was going to be able to use it. I tried ordering the G0602 last week and found out from an email that the lathe was back order to August 1. I called the company to find out what was going on with the lathe issue. The csr was not very helpful as I found out there was another date when they would be in; like the middle of June. I didn't like the way things went with the csr, so I wrote the company an e-mail and wanted the e-mail given to the president oft he compnay.
I was called back by a csr supervisor and found out what was happening with the lathe issue. She shared, the lathe had come in on Wednesday June the
3rd. She mentioned the stand is what is on back order till around August 1.
I told her I was thinking about looking at a different company for a lthe because of the way things went with the lathe now.
After reading some past threads about the G0602 on this site, I can see the lathe is a good one. I was glad to read about some of the issues on how the lathe's packaging had damaged to it and the lathe. I will use the information when I call the supervisor back to order the lathe next week.
Astroguy 06-06-2009, 04:17 PM Good news, I was called Friday by UPS freight and my lathe will be here on Tuesday. :)

Got the lathe yesterday. The crate was in good shape but the pallete was busted where it was bolted to causing the lead screw to sit on the chuck that was under it. they are sending me a new lead screw. Other than that it was in great shape.
