I have a Excitech SHG1224.
I have 1 USB stick that came with the machine.
I use Artcam as toolpath program and have to save my files with a nc.goo extension for them to load on my machine.
I am terrified of losing or damaging this USB stick and have tried to get local brands to work but i cannot get my handpice to read any other stick than the one TANEY supplied.
I have emailed him but with little satisfaction in results, they won't $30.00 US per stick.
There is a simple solution i am sure, would be greatful for any advice anyone can suggest.
I am going off line shortly to discuss this issue with a pint of beer.

Beerman, I am sure this question has come up before.

If you have a look in the thread about Shannon`s machine ( Bigs ), you will see details of another USB stick that he has used.

We had Taney send us a couple of spares - not worried about $30, just good to have spares on hand.
Hope you are enjoying your Excitech - And your Beer!!

Taney spoke to someone at their office. They advised me on Kingstone brand. I've ordered one online from a shop here in SA (2GB for R70, 10.72 Australian Dollar) I'll let you know if it works once arrived.

Thanks for the replies.
Went back through "Big S's" story, man that guy is a freak!!!!!
He should start building the machines himself..
Anyway thanks for the help ill get a Kingston stick and try it.

You're not the first to call me that, I will take it as a compliment.

If anyone else gets other types of memory sticks to work, let us know as the type I have are now unavailable here in NZ.

I remember when trying a few, that among others that I don't remember, a 1GB Sandisk Cruiser worked. :)

Got my Kingston Data Traveller 2GB, yesterday.
Formatted to FAT 32. Very excited...Oh,Oh still not working.
I ahve found using .nc.goo extension was the only extension that worked on the factory USB but it won't work on the Kingston.
Any ideas, I have one that involves many beers and a big hammer. But experience tells me this approach works less and less the older i get.
Any help would be appreciated.
Although it is a backup i would be in real trouble if i can't use this machine.

On a seperate note.
I have been reading recently on the forum of these 'scams' etc..
All i can say is that at first being a little sceptical of Taney, the machine turned up at a cost that was very reasonable. And although i have had small problems with the machine for the price i can live with this and improve the machine as these problems occur.
I think the major problem is the communication barrier. I originally had a 0609 machine and think that my new machine is perfect for what the work i do.
I think for the price you have to sacrifice back up service to an extent and battle through the problems with help of forums like this.
Cheers for beers

Hello,
I use "Kingston 1GB DataTraveler" sticks (I bought 5) and they all work fine.

If you search on Ebay.com for 110389564890 (item number) then you see exactly the same stick I use. Don;t buy the sticks with large memory, test 1 and if it works buy at least 5.

Thanks for the reply.
Borrowed a mates 1GB Kingston stick this morning and still no go.
Tried Sandisk 128MB stick i had and no go.
I formatted them both FAT32....is this still the go or is it my file extension????
I save as .nc.goo and this works on factory USB.
I know this is dragging on but im buggered if i know.
Simple problems normally baffle the lost!!!
I will try and track down another brand and try that.
cheers

I do nothing with my usb sticks : plug and play.
I don't format them. I simply put them into the computer, place my ".TAP" toolpath-files on them, plug them in the DSP and the stick is recognized and the files are displayed.
Do you have the black DSP or the grey? What happens if you plug in a new USB stick without formatting it first?

I have a new usb at home i will try it tommorrow.

My handpiece is black, only purchased at xmas 08.
My original 0609 excitech never came with a stick from the factory so i downloaded directly from my computer.
I have tried 5 different brands so far, but have had no success..

For me it is beer o clock
will get back to you tommorrow after i try new usb
