What are you guys with TL-1's using for a four jaw indepentant chuck? 8 inch? 10 inch? I saw a bison 10 inch with a built in A2-5 mount. Anyone use one of these? How are the bison chucks for quality? I wouldn't be using this everyday but I don't want a complete pos either :)

Here's a link.

It weighs almost 60# any problems with a chuck that heavy on a TL-1? The 8 inch is about 30# but I'm not sure if it will be big enough.

Thanks in advance :)

The quality of Bison chucks is good. I have several three jaws both 8" and 10". They work very smoothly and the reversible top jaws fit beautifully.

But I do question putting 60 lbs on a TL1. That will probably be much more than twice the rotational inertia of the standard chuck and when you have a workpiece clamped in it even more.

If you do get this I would go careful using CSS when facing because repetitively accelerating and deccelerating this mass might overheat your drive.

We currently have the bison and have not had an issue to date. Though we only have had it for a couplke months and in that time used it maybe four times.

I will keep people updated if some things begin to go wrong.

I went with the 10" Bison 4 jaw. The chuck is real nice. I had no problems with mounting it or with it's operation on the TL-1. Here's a few pics if anyone is interested.
