Silly questions perhaps? A friend and I were discussing ways to machine a "piano hinge" made from carbon fibre , and we wondered if an EDM wire machine could be used to cut it. Anyone know if this is feasible? Thanks for any help. Joe

Wire EDM requires the material being cut to be conductive to electricity. The carbon fibers themselves are conductive (although how conductive isn't clear to me) but the resins are likely not. So you probably can't EDM it unless it's in the raw fabric form.

We have cut Carbon Fibre on our wire machines. As long as you've got good continuity throughout the component You shouldn't have too many difficulties. But as the previous poster has stated conductivity will vary; so in reality it's: "suck it and see"
