hey guys,
we have a 2002 VM5 mill with BIG PLUS spindle, I am wondering if I realy need to go thru the full warmup program even is the job I am running only has requirements for 4000 RPM tooling? any hints on this would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Simply put, try cutting without the warmup and check your accuracy on the part. What your trying to avoid is expansion or growth from the bearings and head.

thanks for getting back on this but when I boot the machine, I get an alarm which says WARMUP INCOMPLETE. I accidentally cleared the alarm one day many weeks ago and started running a program. That is when I wondered how necessary it really is to run it if I am running below 10,000 RPM ?

I would imagine that the alarm is just a safety alarm. As you say, you can clear it. The alarm can probably be turned off by some bit selection in the PLC. If they put this in there I would do it as a safety precaution. Spindle heads are not cheap these days.

Normally we never ran the spindle warm-up for jobs that ran under 6000RPM on OKKs.
