I am using turbocnc v.4 and was wondering if anyone knows if the version of DOS im using has any effect on system performance? That is on the controller, i mean. I ask because when i boot up Turbo i get the message about long interupt latencey detected,system performace may be poor,blah,blah. Thanks yall.

first off, disclaimer: i have never used turbocnc. But I am a programmer and my instinct on this would be that dos versions really shouldnt have any effect, bios settings for bus interrupt timings, pci, isa, depending on how your motherboard is design the parallel port hangs off from somewhere and the timings might be adjustable, not that they're likely to make a difference considering how slow a parallel port is in comparison to the data rates on these busses anyways. The other issue is the parallel port settings itself in the bios, epp, ecp, etc, I dont know what turbocnc wants, but tweaking this to a better mode might help things.

Are you running in straight DOS, not in a DOS window in windows, right? Also, make sure you don't have any memory managers running.

Making an educated guess, I am assuming that you are using Win95 or possibly Win 98 or a later version (like XP). I am also assuming that you are running in a DOS window.

True DOS Versions 5.0 for 6.1 even at clock speeds of 33MHz (in my opinion) will outperform Windows versions hands down running pure assembly code. Also, this statement is made relative to running only one (1) application at a time.

Also, you might get that latency message, but still get good performance. Don't just go by the message. If you're getting good performance, don't worry about the message.
