All -

I got an announcement email today about build 5.50 revision 22906. I have downloaded the install program, but will not have time to try it for about a week or so.

It is about 110MB, and available at the SprutCAM web site (here (http://download.sprut.ru/English/Demo/SprutCAM2007/Setup_SprutCAM2007_WE.exe)).

If you try it, please let us know what you think!

Regards,

I have downloaded it and got an error message when installing it.

"Extracting Sprutcam_2007.5.50.22906.exe
CRC failed in Sprutcam_2007.5.50.22906.exe
Extracting_SCInstPfo_onlinesoft.exe"

I downloaded it a couple of times thinking maybe there was a problem while downloading it the first time and got the same result. (I'm running Windows XP)

Hi Guys,

I was able to download v5.50 last night and get it installed. A couple of things to think about, which I did not.....

I forgot to save my tool library so guess that is now gone. As it usually goes, I thought of that at the same time I clicked the button to uninstall the old version. Oh well, I only had a couple tools in it as I am fairly new to the SC program.

Don't forget to have the hardware key file in the same directory as the new install files. The first time I installed version 5.50 it did not find the hardware key and wanted one to register online. The second time I had the files in same directory but also had a _??online??.exe file in the directory. As things go the installer grabbed the online registration file so as they say the third times the charm! :)

I ran the program and loaded a couple prior projects and all looked fine. Evenings are way to short so did not have time to try anything else.

RTP_Burnsville,

Have you ever had the problem that I have with the CRC error message. As I recall last month when I purchased Sprutcam from Tormach I tried downloading and installing the current version and had the same problem. When I called Tormach about it they recommenced that I just install the version on the disc they sent me which is 5.47.

Saabaero,

I did not have the CRC problem. However, the download crashed a couple times in the middle and I had to start over. Good thing I was at the coffeeshop that has a high speed internet!

I never received anything from Tormach (other than a dongle tossed into an envelope, no note, no CD, no manual, very unprofessional given the price.) when I purchased SC at about the same time as you. If I remember right, the original download also took a couple of attempts before success.

If you are still having problems, I could make you a CD and send it via snail mail.

SC looks like it will be a nice program once we/they work around a few minor issues. Annoying at times, but there is nothing else I have found that fits my budget. Glad to have a few people here (such as yourself) to help out and keep me partly sain.

I couldn't stand it, so I stole a few hours last night and installed the upgrade. I did not uninstall the old version first. I did make a copy of the "SprutCAM 2007" directory in "My Documents" before I installed. I did the install without the dongle attached. No CRC errors. Saabaero, you might want to download winrar and check the file that you downloaded.

After the install I put the dongle in and started the program. It registered itself at startup. I played around with my 4th axis project and noticed that the toolpaths are now a little cleaner (I had seen some tiny waves in the path on the corners of my part; they are all gone now), but the big path errors that it makes are still present (it dives for no good reason at four points on the part; I still have to fix those by hand). The other nits I have seen are still present too, such as rapid feeds into the work and mysterious changing of the stock thickness if you don't have the bottom Z value set to zero (on the Tool-End Machining page).

I have not tried to copy my tool library back in, so I hope that goes OK. Since I'm tool-poor, It won't take long to fix either way.

One happier note that I caught when I tested posting the program; It apparently now sees .spp files in addition to the .ppl post files! Cool. Of course, I really don't care about other machines, but getting new post files would be easier if I don't have to get them from Tormach.

I downloaded it 3 times and checked the ".exe" files with WINRAR and each one had CRC errors. Is there another mirror site that you know of where it can be downloaded from? I wonder if I downloaded the individual RAR files if that would be better.

I had to download it about 8 times before I got the whole thing. Before that it kept quitting somewhere between the 40 MB and 85 MB mark.

Also I copied the download to my Sprutcam install folder. This folder contains the hardware hasp usb drivers as everyone who uses the USB key is aware needs to be in the install directory.

The downloaded file decompressed placing both a new install and some sort of online soft file (see files in the folder) in the same directory.

I had to delete this soft file or else the install would always use software registration, not my hardware key.

Seems to work fine now.

I am having this same problem with it wanting to go online to register.

I found this file in the extract folder "_SCInstPF0_OnLineSoft.exe" and deleted it but it still wanted to go online to register. I then uninstalled Sprutcam and reinstalled it and still the same thing.

What kind of company is this? I tried emailing them in the past and never got a response?????

Well it's 7:00 am now! After trying through the night to get Sprutcam running I finally gave up and got about 2 hours of sleep before trying again.

I remembered that I got an email from Sprutcam right after I purchased the software so I dug it out and sure enough there were links to the latest version of the software, a link for the Hasp file and one for the PCNC file.

I downloaded the files and as usual with everything I download from Sprutcam, they were corrupt. I tried several times with no success so I looked on the disc I got from Tormach and sure enough they were there. So I loaded them into the folder I extracted the program files to, deleted the "_SCInstPF0_OnLineSoft.exe" file and ran the installation.

VOILA! Success at last!

I think part of the problem with my not knowing the correct install process has to do with the fact that I installed the initial software from the Tormach CD and they had a batch file that took care of everything.

I still have the problem of downloading files from Sprutcams site. I can't understand why every file is corrupt. I tried downloading on two different computers. Is that a common problem?

At any rate... I want to thank each of you for your help. I don't know where I'd be without it.

All,

If you are using Sprut 5.5 with a Tormach only post (.ppl) it does not work with the lastest post, had to revert to an older post - which does not have the multigoto for the 4th axis.

Sent a note to Tormach and they are aware of it and so is Sprutcam.

I started having a weird problem with V5.5 today. It seems like the initial position for the cutter shifted and I was cutting through the part to get to the start point.

I'm not sure if there is just a parameter was set different when v5.5 was installed or if there is a bug in the software. I tried playing with some of the settings and the cutter moved back to the correct initial position but it seems to change at random. Also the cutter is in one place (say in the x+ direction) and the tool path start is along the z axis. That seems to change locations randomly also.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or have an idea as to what I may be doing wrong?

Can you post your project file? Are you setting your safe height and safe level above the work piece?

This probably wasn't a good time to switch to version 5.5 as I am just learning the software. I have seen in this version, and the previous version where some strange things happened that only shutting down the program and restarting it will cure. For example, today I took a simple cube and moved the construction plane 1/2" above the part. When I projected the periphery the resulting rectangle was moved sideways from the part and rotated 90 degrees instead of being projected directly above it (regardless of what I tried). When I shut down and restarted the program it acted normally. This complicates the situation for me as it is hard for me to tell if it's something I am doing wrong or if it is a bug in the software. This can drive me crazy while trying to learn.

In the previous version I never saw a situation where the cutter was positioned below the part after I created the toolpath but that could just be a coincidence. My safe level is set 1/2" above the Z zero (top of part) in the operation parameters. I'm not sure if I know how to set the safe height. My tool was always positioned about 7" above the Z0 on the X0 Y0 at the start of the tool path. I'm not sure if that was the tool change location or not but I never had to change any other settings (during my limited experience with the software).
