Hey guys,
I finally could not stand the noise of the PC router...way to loud and decided to try a trim router. Much nicer for me.
I bought a Bosch Colt trim router.
I started to think of a mount for it and noted K2 sells one...but as I had a chunk of aluminum sitting around lets give it a shot.
I used a 3/4" router bit (didn't have anything else :) and it works GREAT!! I am not used to using such large bits and have to admit my heart was pounding as I was just waiting for something to fly across the room.
Router was on speed 2-3, feed rate 30 ipm, 0.5 mm per pass. Came out great! The Bosch fits in GREAT!! The worst part was when I manually tried to clean the holes and smooth the edges. Next time I will program that too.
Also tapping the holes was a bit rough as I did not want to break the tap in there.
I saw how K2 mounts their router but decided to remove my Z axis plate and drill some holes in it (using the PC mount plate as a templete) and mount it from the back. I than screwed in some screws in the exsisting holes before drilling holes into the new mount to make sure it was level. If I want to remove it I just move the router down and use an allen wrench from behind. I am pretty happy with it!
