Hi there,

I'm a service engineer and I have a problem with a U32 MGW-J1 wire cut machine.

The problem is with the TOUCH function.
If I try to find a hole center or a workpiece edge, the machine starts to move, searching for the edge of the workpiece. The LEDs on the servo bar are lighten on but the axis movement doesn't stop when the wire touches the workpiece. The number of LEDs lighted on the servo bar is reducing when the wire touches the workpiece, that indicates that the machine "feels" the workpiece.

If I try the TOUCH CHECK on the MACHINE OPERATE screen, it is the same. The servo LEDs are on and when touching the workpiece with the wire, the number of lighten LEDs is reducing. The touch indicator on the remote control is not on.

The machine is machining without any problem, which means that the generator is O.K.

On the EIO screen I saw that the output *TOUCH-ST is "1" when turning on the touch function.
The input *TOUCH-B is "1" when the wire is not touching the workpiece, and "0" when the wire is touching the workpiece.

Please help me to solve this problem.

Thanks

i no little about that model you are using but have some expeience with edms im curios is wire breaking whenever you try to locate off the part i know with some models the surface needs to be clean so it can be conductive or it want recognize when it touches off such as maybe having some paint or coating on the part

Thanks Micheal,

Actually I have already solved the problem.
The problem was with the GAP cable. It was loose and hanging on a thread.

After replacing the GAP cable the touch function works fine.
