View Full Version : What Encoder Brands Do you use with your Ajax MILLMANM 11-11-2004, 04:19 PM Looking for Info On encoder types That have been proven to work with Ajax CNC systems. Thanks for any info converterk 11-11-2004, 11:22 PM I have seen Sumtak,Dynapar and Renco encoders used. They are 5 volt differential type. I will be trying some US Digital encoders that were on a Camsoft retrofit in the next couple of weeks and will let you know how they work. In my opinion the $125 that Ajax charges for a new encoder is money well spent. Terry MILLMANM 11-29-2004, 02:26 PM Converterk thanks for the reply, I went ahead and ordered the encoders from US DIGITAL # E6D hope they work, Built mounts for my SEM motors over the week end at work so I should know if they work some time this week. Also had to change out the pin in the end of the motor. Went from 5mm to .250 and .875 lenght to make it all work. Seems that you have been doing some retrofits to ajax lately any thing I shound look out for ? Thank Brad dk1machine 12-04-2004, 07:44 PM You can get Koyo encoders from Automation Direct. A 5V TTL Quadrature encoder with 2500 PPR is around $75/80. Lowest price I've seen and they work great. dan k MILLMANM 12-05-2004, 08:01 PM dk1 do you mean line driver quads, 9 pin if the US encoders work the are around the same money for 2000ppr 8000 cpr and are easy install thanks Brad HillBilly 12-06-2004, 04:49 AM MILLMANN, What model truck are you working on? could not help but notice it in the background. Darek MILLMANM 12-06-2004, 07:36 AM Hillbilly What an eye , hate to change the subject , but it is a 69 f100 shorty 302 efi, aod, with 20" wheels, almost done, hope by the new year. HillBilly 12-06-2004, 08:02 AM It looked like a E100 stubby at a glance. Darek MILLMANM 12-23-2004, 01:07 PM I have finished wiring the US Digital E6D encoders to the system and they seam to work, in the pid parameters they show movement in all 3 axis, but it looks like I have to reverse the y axis to get it reading the right direction  Al_The_Man 12-23-2004, 01:29 PM Don't forget that if the motor direction is right but the encoder is wrong direction, on a differential type you just swop the A & /A pins. Al AjaxCNC 12-23-2004, 01:46 PM MillManm, You do not need to change the encoder wiring at all with an Ajax system. The control does not care which direct the encoder reads, as long as it reads correctly and smoothly. Just swapping the A & A/ will do nothing at all, except not work. The correct proceedure to change encoder direction is to swap the A & B and the A/ & B/. Al_The_Man 12-23-2004, 02:26 PM I guess I am used to all the motion control cards that I use that use this method, I was not aware that AjaxCnc would be different. Sorry for the mislead. Al MILLMANM 01-03-2005, 05:07 PM Well I finally have it finished ,and the encoders work great. have run autotune and I am suprized at the low pid values for this old of machine 1985 BP Still need to set the ball comps, but could not resist the earge to do somthing , so I ran an engraving for a freinds Harley |
