View Full Version : RFQ Custom Lathe Piece
Cold Fusion 11-10-2004, 10:06 PM Hello fellow members,
A couple friends and I are in the process of building a custom pneumatic gun and we need this piece machined. I would like it to be done in 6061 Aluminum. If it's too long for you to do, please let me know by exactly how much and I may be able to shorten the design. The only real challenge I see is the 11" deep 1/4" bore. As fas as tolerences go, .005 is fine for everything, although any closer on the OD wouldn't hurt.
MILLMANM 11-11-2004, 04:27 PM It may be possible to get a piece of extrusion or tubing with a .250 bore diam,
or close and ream to size.
just a thought

Cold Fusion 11-11-2004, 05:14 PM That may work, but I think it would preform better with a single piece unit.
pyroracing85 01-26-2005, 05:14 PM I might be able to do this. The file doesn't work either
pyroracing85 01-26-2005, 05:19 PM Do you have any other dimesions? O.D.? I tried to pm you but it said you were filled

Cold Fusion 03-28-2005, 12:47 PM Here is the new file.
Concerning the 8" deep bore down the center of the piece. The file calls for a diameter of 6.03mm, but anything from 6mm to 6.07mm would be acceptable. The material can be either be 6061 or 7075 Aluminum.
Ken_Shea 03-28-2005, 08:48 PM Dang Andrew,
You have some of the best software money can buy and you post this in only 2D, are we having trouble with anything that is not flat :D
Cold Fusion 03-29-2005, 01:01 AM
The IGES/STEP files are on my other computer. I'll post them in the morning.
Cold Fusion 03-29-2005, 09:18 AM Here they are.
Deviant 03-29-2005, 03:25 PM pneumatic with 6.03.... hmm sounds like airsoft.
*grins*
I've been buying my equipment to make airsoft guns.
Now if I could only get them all in one whole piece and location.
Cold Fusion 03-29-2005, 03:28 PM I'm converting a paintball gun to shoot airsoft pellets. It'll have a 1500 round hopper, with a c02 tank capable of 1000 shots, and can shoot *up to* 550fps. Needless to say, my friends are in trouble.
Deviant 03-29-2005, 03:39 PM Shoot me a PM, might have a better option for you.
Should be alot cheaper, and the guy here really liked it.
Cold Fusion 04-01-2005, 10:42 PM Anyone?
Ken_Shea 04-01-2005, 11:05 PM Andrew, I think the problem is this is going to be kinda a trial and error sort of thing and it is likely that most are not all that willing to put 3 or 4 hours into turning and drilling this piece just to see if it can be done on a maybe I will get the job basis. Personally, I don''t think it would really be all that difficult. Actually, I started this just for fun and about an hour into it I discovered it was not all that much fun anymore so I quit :)
Cold Fusion 04-02-2005, 10:34 AM I managed to be creative with the design and now all I need is an 1/8" bore through a 8" long rod of Delrin. It's a stupidly simple job, if I had a lathe.
Cold Fusion 04-05-2005, 12:09 AM The part has now been done. Thanks everyone.
