Hello guys,

Would anyone have any direct experience on a HARDINGE CONQUEST ST220 5 AXIS SWISS TYPE CNC LATHE 1998?

Is it a good machine?
Does it break often?
Would you buy one if it was in relatively good condition?
How does it compare to STAR or CITIZEN?

Go wild, guys. Let me know everything you can think of. Please.

G'day
Greg

Greg,

Good day. I bought a new citizen. It is the number one selling swiss lathe and I'm so happy with it that I ordered another one. tool life that last for 3 to 4 days. 24 hour operation. No noise or breakdown. I bought it with a FEDEC feeder. You can buy an old one but Hardinge in Asia aren't doing well. Not as accurate and breakdowns are more prevalent. I'm not exactly sure with the model you mentioned but I did research Tsugami, Star and Citizen. Star and Citizen are both okay but it really depends on the quantity you are making. If you are making a big volume of parts, go with the citizen. it is fast, twice as fast as the tsugami. If you are considering price, then you probably can source an older machine but just be careful. Hard to choose machines that are old. Sometimes, it just gives you more headache than making parts.
