View Full Version : Failed to Boot Win NT !
mte.jalal 10-29-2008, 03:57 PM Hi,
I'm really in trouble, Please somebody help me!
I have separated the control(A2100) H.D.D in order to make a clone from hard disk then after connecting the hard again to control while starting windows Blue window with full of errors comes meaning Failed to Boot !
However I want to see if there some input device like CD-ROM or Floppy in that case I would be able to repair the boot.
Do you have any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance.
Jalal
Rob_N 11-03-2008, 07:52 AM Depending on what you did to clone the disk, you may have changed the boot record of the drive. Sometimes just plugging in the drive to another computer will do this.
If you can get into dos, possibly by loading the NT setup floppies you may be able to get to the recovery console, ifso you can type fixboot and it should ask you if you are sure you want to rewrite the boot table. It's been awhile for me, so I hope I didnt miss anything. Fixboot does not format anything, so it shouldnt mess anything else up.
If you are cloning a hard drive on a A2100 system, always do it from the A2100 system - don't put the master hard drive in another computer or this will happen.
You can also try and copy the contents of the hard drive to a fresh-formatted in NT bootable drive. If the boot sector is damaged, the rest of your data is usually OK.

Thanks for your given nice information.
There is big problem I can't install a floppy drive to control, I could find the port but I don't have the cable that connects to that port as you know it's not an standard slot if I find the pins drawing I might be able to make a cable myself, also if you do me a favor and show me how the floppy is connected to control I would be so thankful.
Thanks in advance

ImanCarrot 11-05-2008, 04:20 AM Can you boot from a USB device? Get a memory stick and format it transfering the system files to make it bootable. From the BIOS make sure that "other boot devices' is selected. That should get you round the floppy problem.
On this note... Is there a way to add USB capability to the A2100 system?
I never knew that it was an option ever.

My machine has a floppy disk drive at the back of the machine, It was on there when we bought the mill. The floppy drive has a board attached to it, but it just looks to be power, some of the ribbon cable appear to be diverted to the board, but only 2 wires come off the board and go into the power connector for the floppy drive itself.
Can you bypass the machines proprietary connection and connect directly to the motherboard? I have never opened that box up personally, so I do not know whats in there.

hello!
this is my first post here..
I had the same problem with a2100 hdd as mte.jalal.
here is the solution:
when win xp, or similar, detects an older version of ntfs file system, it automaticaly updates it during boot. that updated partition is not readable anymore for win NT, that acrimatic uses. you get blue screen during boot.
you have to format partition under winnt with old version of ntfs, or format it to fat16 system under control panel->admin tools->computer managment->disk managment under winxp. then just copy files, wich you backed up earlier with windows explorer back to new hard drive.
it work for me, it should to you too.
SeanO 01-06-2009, 07:30 AM ^^ If you format the partition you will lose ALL YOUR DATA. Make a backup first.
Rob_N was on the right track, but I think the command is "fixmbr" not fixboot.
yes, of course you have to back up data first! what i am saying is, if you make an image with norton ghost, acronis TI,... when you restore that image to another disk, it wont boot, because winxp changes ntfs file system.
you have to manualy copy files from a2100 disk to your hard drive in computer, and when restroing data first make fat16 partition and then copy files from your hdd back to new.
I tried fixmbr, and some third parity boot tools, but none worked.
mte.jalal 01-06-2009, 08:15 AM thank a lot,
you seem to more professional.
Unfortunately I have sold the machine and no i one with other control working with Acramatic 7500 it's not computer based.
But I'm so happy to learn that solution from you. I hope others can solve this problem by your given solution.
Thanks so much.
